Perhaps the quietest story of the past week is the tablet frenzy that took place at this year's Computex event. In January, as Apple prepared to unveil the iPad, tech blogs and publications heralded that a tablet from Apple would soon spark a veritable tablet computer frenzy around the world - both among consumers and manufacturers.

Now that this prediction stands poised to ...

You can almost picture Steve Jobs wearing a bad 1970's era leisure suit announcing during a late night TV infomercial that "all things must go!" to clear the inventory and make way for a dazzling new product. That's the image that's popping into some folks' heads today (or at least mine), as word gets around that AT&T is reportedly sold out of the iPhone 3G.

Next Monday, at the kick-off ...

While it's understood that Google and Apple aren't always seeing eye-to-eye, it still appears as though there is some love that still exists. Yesterday Google had announced that it would be adding a new feature alongside any mobile-formatted search results. While one might assume that these link would only be Android app specific, it does appear that Apple's Apps appear as well.

Reactions throughout the industry to AT&T's new data plans have been almost uniformly negative, with many commenters describing the change with the same term, calling it a "bait-and-switch." The expression generally refers to the practice of luring someone in with a certain promise, only to change it after a commitment has already been made. Proving that this was the carrier's intention is close ...

Competition in the global marketplace for tablet computers is growing. And while Apple isn't necessarily looking over its shoulder just yet, the era of the "pad" is clearly taking hold as everyone seems to be gearing up for an attempt at capturing some of the iPad's gargantuan market share.

On Monday, MMi covered Netbook PC pioneer Asus' first tablet offering, the Eee Pad, which is gratuitously boasting ...

The news of a Verizon spokesperson's flat statement that the carrier has "no plans to carry the iPhone in the immediate future" has been met with a mix of disappointment and frustration. Disappointment, because many had been hoping for a CDMA iPhone at next week's Worldwide Developers Conference, a possibility that looks as if it's been definitively quashed. Frustration because there's about a mile of ...

Michael reported earlier on Steve Jobs's talk Tuesday evening with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher at the Wall Street Journal's D8 Conference and the wide range of topics that they covered. One comment, made almost in passing, has prompted a fair amount of discussion: Jobs's statement that we are entering the "post-PC era." He's not the first person to warn about the death of the personal computer, of course: the PC's demise ...
