I'm not sure this in the App Store or Cydia yet, but Harvard researchers are developing smartphone applications to assist in the detecting of landmines.

In 2008 nearly 5,000 people died because of landmines despite 500,000 landmines being properly removed. To help curb these statistics Harvard researchers are developing the pattern enhancement tool for assisting land mine ...

YouTube announced today they're joining the streaming rental fracas, a field dominated by iTunes and Netflix. Hopefully this wont include mandatory Rick Rolls during opening credits.

YouTube, starting this month, will provide streaming movie rentals. The initial number of movies for rent is near 3,000, including classics like Caddyshack, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver and Scarface. YouTube's ...

Stop the presses. The Queen of England has an iPad. And rumor has it, she got it for free (don't you just love it when people with a gazillion dollars get stuff for free?).

As it turns out, Her Royal Highness was turned on to the tablet by her grandsons, Harry and William, who are said to be equally enamored of the touchscreen device - ironic, especially since the Royals aren't ones to ...

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has leapfrogged ahead of some legendary names on a new list honoring the great all-time heroes in engineering. A recent survey of 900 British engineering undergraduates by General Electric aimed to find the greatest engineering heroes who ever lived.

Surpassing the likes of Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and even Thomas Edison, Steve Jobs placed third overall on the ...

Although we have no confirmation of gloating going on inside the Cupertino, California corporate offices of Apple, it wouldn't be difficult to imagine that happening today on the heels of a new report that speaks to the core strengths of the iDevice line.

Based on the research and subsequent findings of Canaccord Genuity technology analyst Michael Walkley, older-generations of Apple's most popular products ...

Apple's overall rise in popularity worldwide has skyrocketed and has really shown in the past couple weeks. The Fortune 500 even ranked Apple extremely high even though giants like Walmart are still up as number one. Even with competition from Microsoft and Google's campaign for Android, Apple has continued to strive for greater heights and has not been tired out or broken down by any means. ...

The iPhone 4's namesake can spell a lot of confusion for the novice gadgeteer. The inclusion of the 4 may cause the less knowledgeable to assume it has 4G network capabilities, like a number of it's 4G Android competitors. Korean Telecom (KT) eliminated any confusion, and subsequent disappointment, for their customers today with the release of it's new WiMax capable sleeve the "Egg."

Adam Lashinsky 's latest feature story in this month's Fortune magazine titled "Inside Apple" paints a picture of the Jobsonian Empire (flow chart above) the majority of us haven't been privy of till now.

Lashinsky's uses a number of anecdotes as narrative force behind the piece. One of the more interesting stories involves an account of Jobs' reaction to the botched MobileMe rollout in 2008. MobileMe was supposed to offer continuous access ...

With the Chinese release of the iPad 2 yesterday and the White iPhone previously, China has been in the spotlight as Apple's products are selling faster than ever. It was without peace with the iPad 2 selling out in 4 hours, riots, and similar actions with the White iPhone 4. But what I find more astounding is the percentage of iDevices that are jailbroken in China. The statistics tell the tale. ...

Microsoftís Canadian website is now advertising the merits of Windows PCís over that of Apple computers by comparing various models and configurations. This kind of advertising is nothing new of course, however, the PCís that Microsoft has chosen to compare are hardly evenly match machines. Macís have always fetched a higher price than rivals, but itís all about what you get for your money that really ...
