In what could be a futuristic development for future iPhones (and iPads and iPods as well), this week the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office shed light on something Apple may be tinkering with. A patent application out of Cupertino suggests that Apple wants future iDevice to recognize and react to individual users.

Simply put, the iDevices could be "taught" to identify a user based on their appearance, detected heartbeat, ...

Here's a headline involving Verizon and Apple that you may not have been expecting. Unlike the plethora of Verizon iPhone rumors that continue to populate the web before any concrete evidence of such a development has been made public directly from the wireless carrier, we are hearing about much more plausible Apple-Verizon pairing in the near future. And this one involves the iPad.

I'm not sure how Apple is going to feel about this.

As it turns out, Justin Long, star of the popular "Get a Mac" TV spots from Apple, is among us. That is, he's in our "community," if you catch my drift. And while Justin's former bosses in Cupertino may not be thrilled with this revelation, Justin Long obviously isn't just playing a contemporary, cutting ...

The popular video sharing service Vimeo has joined the Apple bandwagon, effectively shunning Flash in favor of a new embeddable HTML5 video player optimized for both the iPhone and iPad. Even though Vimeo introduced an HTML5-based video playback site in early 2010, this is the first time Vimeo has made it possible for users to embed vids with this new "Universal Player."

    Essentially, ...

Today is a special little feature. I've gathered some of the best and most used app recommendations from the MMi Staff, and here is what we consider to be worthy of almost always being installed on our iDevices, dubbed as our "Most Used Apps".

Here is how I will do this. After asking each of the staff members their top picks, I will list the apps from the most common first, and then I'll show each staff member's top picks.

Here are the top 5 Apps that are installed on at least 3/5 of all of MMi Staff's devices. Don't foget to let us know what apps YOU use most, and share your experiences.

Several months ago, rumors began swirling that Apple was interested in an entirely fresh batch of star power to help push the new slate of Apple products in 2010. So far, however, the "star power" of the devices themselves have been adequate to achieve juggernaut sales and deplete international inventories on a frequent basis.

But all signs continue to point to one unlikely ...

According to a brief report in the English-language Chinese media, Apple has settled with China Unicom on a deal to sell the iPhone 4 and iPad in China, less than a year since the iPhone 3GS became available and just a few days since a WiFi-enabled phone went on sale. The report indicated that China Unicom would be launching the new phone in early September, but didn't give a timetable for ...

    by Dustin Schau

Today's theme of the week, Classica 3, is Retina Display compatible, featuring crisp, sharp, clean icons to refresh your display. While essentially only an icon set, Dustin Schau has manage to create a replacement iconset for the default iPhone 4, iPhone 3G and iPod touch, which absolutely shines on the new Retina Display.

There are icons for all of the default apps, as well as replacements for several third party applications (e.g. Plants vs. Zombies, Last.fm, etc.), and a large ...

Modders will appreciate a very cool story that comes to us by way of MacStories. What we have is an especially creative modder who successfully acted on his mixed tastes in technology - that is, his fondness for the EEE keyboard but also his Mac and accompanying trackpad. The end result is a sweet fusion of sorts that is on display in these intriguing pics.
