Updating and using the iOS 5 beta will be done at your own risk. Please be wary of the consequences and risks of using a beta firmware.

Today, Apple has released beta updates for all their enterprise products: iOS 5, iTunes 10.5, Xcode 4.2, and AppleTV. With the exception of iOS 5 beta 4 and AppleTV, all the other applications were updated to support the newly released iOS 5 beta. The Multitasking / AppSwitcher feature, first added in iOS 4, is a great implementation that allows quick switching of applications from anywhere on your device. For the most part, in terms of use for simple purposes, the AppSwitcher does a great job of giving you the options and methods you need to best use your device. The only downside to the Multitasking feature is that you're only able to remove one background application at ...

There's quite a few customizable cases on the market - today I'm taking a look at two which I've had samples of on my desk for a bit.

The PixCase, aka The Picture Frame Case comes from Jaymo, based out of lovely Waunakee, Wisconsin. They were started in 1991, with the founder's son as the first employee. I've also got a LikeMyCase, which is a company of "three guys from the North of England [who] got together randomly over a beer, and quickly found out they shared the same vision for personalized gifts."

The two cases take the approach to customization from different sides, ...

Apple has apparently started to crack down on developers who sell early beta versions of iOS 5 to non-developers. According to a report by Karthikk, Apple has identified certain developers who have been selling UDID slots to the general public. Apple has started to close developer accounts that have been caught selling iOS 5 beta software to unauthorized personnel.

Many developers have already received an email ...

It's sort of like the red/blue political map of the USA that you see on the news during presidential elections... but way cooler.

The good people at Jumptap have published what's being called a mobile platform “heat map," as it makes it easy to peruse the states in which certain smartphones and their accompanying mobile operating systems are most popular.

The blue states, as highlighted in the image above, ...

Tweaks for the iOS Maps app are somewhat of an anomoly, not in that they're unusual, but that it's unusual how few of them exist. However, a new jailbreak tweak adds something that probably should have been there from the start.

The Speed for Maps tweak adds a spedometer to the iOS Maps app. It's simple, effective, and lookes like it should be there. It even lets users select what units ...

It's "Black Friday" on Wall Street today. Following what can only be called "Black Thursday" yesterday - a trading session that saw the Dow off by more than 500 points - equities are once again cascading downward on lingering economic uncertainties and global financial unrest.

Since July 21, the Dow has closed lower in 9 of the last 10 trading days (looks like it will be 10 out of 11 after today). ...
