Well, that didn't take too long now did it? Bright and early in this new year, Apple is putting its late 2009 acquisition of Lala to good use. Tapping into the service that we all know and love Lala for, Apple has enabled 30 second browser-based song previews from iTunes Charts. This nicely caps off the initial efforts taken by Apple last fall to engender a quality iTunes web preview.

    Functioning ...

Rumors of an Apple tablet have lingered for so long that one must wonder if Apple encountered so many hitches on the path of development that the product's initial rumored launch last year had to be delayed until January of this year. If true, it's an equally fair assumption to wonder if the "iSlate" is so richly packed with cool features and capabilities that a January 2010 launch may actually be ahead of schedule rather ...

Further escalating an already hot legal war, Nokia last week asked a federal court last week to prevent Apple from importing pretty much every product it currently makes into the US, including most iPhone, iMac and iPod models. The Finnish cellphone manufacturer, largest in the world, already had sued Apple for patent infringement on the iPhone, and Apple countersued.

The lawsuit is almost word-for-word ...

The Wall Street Journal - not generally a rumor mill - reported on Tuesday that the mysterious Apple tablet will ship in March and cost $1,000. And right on the heels of this news comes a report that Microsoft will announce its own touchscreen device at the Consumer Electronics Show on Wednesday. The two reports taken together are an indication that 2010 may be the Year of the Tablet.

    According to a report ...

Generally speaking, whenever the word "upgrade" is used, it usually means that something is being improved upon and thus "upgraded" to a higher performance standard or caliber of excellence. Although AT&T has been straightforward of late in its efforts to improve upon the carrier's ill-performing network, there's no guarantee (from AT&T) that speed will be readily improved in the wake of AT&T's announcement that the software for its 3G sites has been ...

Apple announced on Tuesday that the iTunes App Store marked its 3 billion downloads from iPhone and iPod touch users. Coming just over three months after the 2 billionth download, the statistic indicates the rapid growth of the iPhone app marked shows no signs of slowing.

Steve Jobs was characteristically exultant in his statement.

The 100,000 apps available on the App Store dwarfs the number ...

A deal is in the works for Verizon to carry a special CDMA version of the iPhone, according to an analyst. If the two companies can come to terms, the iPhone could be running on Verizon's 3G network by the middle of 2010, according to UBS Investment Research analyst Maynard J. Um.

Apple has seen, in country after country where the iPhone is available on multiple carriers, a marked uptick ...

Apple isn't wasting any time fresh out of the gates this year. With new gadgets and potentially "game changing" devices on the horizon, Apple is looking for a marketing edge to accompany the technological edge Cupertino has gained on its competition.

Late last night word first emerged that Apple may announce a deal to acquire a large mobile marketing firm. Today it now appears that such a deal is imminent. From ZNET: ...

Following the report in the staid, serious Financial Times of London that Apple would have a "big" announcement at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, today comes a report in the somewhat less staid but still serious Digital Daily from the Wall Street Journal. According to John Paczkowski, it's "going to be a big deal."

He notes that the "It's Only Rock'n'Roll" ...

Using the iPhone as a universal remote is an idea that has always seemed to have a lot of appeal, as tech-friendly people tend to have a lot of electronic devices in the living room. We've seen products that purport to bring that functionality to the iPhone, but require a separate, rather pricey, infrared base. Now L5 Technology has announced at CES an elegant, small-form factor accessory at a reasonable ...

Although no one was surprised by Apple's recent decision to pull the plug (for China's App Store, at least) on a number of applications deemed by the Chinese government to be inappropriate, many were angered by Apple's apparent eagerness to please the Chinese even if it means snubbing developers and their apps for the sake of doing business in Asia's largest mobile community.

Now comes word that Apple is buckling yet again, but this ...
