According to a new report by Chitika, iOS users jump to a new version mainly for the enticing features instead of the increased security which is often provided. The analytics firm looked at iOS adoption rates and found that 12.5% of users installed iOS 5.1.1 within the first week and compared it to the 20% who grabbed the feature filled iOS 5 in the first seven days.

Although Tim Cook has largely flourished and retained investor confidence during his first ten months as Apple CEO (no small task given the enormous shoes he was selected to fill), most people in the industry - perhaps even Cook himself - would agree that Apple's new boss isn't the most charismatic showman around.

And so there may be a better fit for Apple's "public face" than Cook at events like Apple's ...

WWDC banners are going up, specualtion is swirling, and the first Retina Display supporting app showed up in the Mac App Store this morning.

The Next Web spotted the slip in the updated description of FolderWatch. The app was updated today and listed under the "What's new" description is “Retina graphics.” Discovering a simple app that syncs and mirrors files automatically with "Retina graphics" might not be ...

The iPhone 5 is one of the most sought-after devices in the world. Starting in 2011, rumors started pounding the Internet about purported four-inch displays, 4G LTE technology, thinner case design, and much more. Apple unfortunately released the iPhone 4S instead, but the iPhone 5 would have to be the next iPhone if Apple’s naming process is to remain set in stone.

This year, a handful of supposed iPhone 5 parts have been ...

It seems like only yesterday Apple was up on the stage announcing iOS 5 and showing us all of the new features that came along with it. In the Apple iWorld, time flies and iOS 6 is already on the horizon according to some new banners being hung at Moscone West reading, "iOS 6 – The world's most advanced mobile operating system." Moscone West is, of course, where Apple’s event ...

Although the sixth generation iPhone remains at least three to four months away from its public debut, plans are already being made for the device's production across Asia.

With widely anticipated new attributes ranging from 4G LTE connectivity to a larger screen - not to mention all the sweet new bells and whistles from iOS 6 - the next-gen iPhone may be the hottest iPhone release yet. And with each ...

Hailing a taxi in NY might get a little less dangerous if the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) follows through on their latest claim.

The TLC has apparently heard of these smartphone things millions of New Yorkers possess and wants to develop a system that would allow taxi riders to book, track, and pay for a cab using their smartphones. The TLC is currently accepting proposals from developers that would ...

With the countdown clock rapidly ticking away ahead of Monday's WWDC kick-off, a growing number of insiders close to the top at Apple say that a new MacBook series is definitely coming out of the annual convention this year.

The latest talk confirms a totally new MacBook model that is said to be a fusion or hybrid of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Supposedly, there will be no disc drive and the sizes ...

Analyst Gene Munster from Piper Jaffray in a note to investors suggests that about 2% of Google’s annual revenue comes from the iPhone. His note highlights Apple’s reasons for extracting Google (more specifically Google Maps) from the iOS platform. We expect that an announcement will be made next week at WWDC where Apple is said to announce its own replacement for Google Maps.

    Munster had the following ...

To say that Apple and Samsung have had a contentious working relationship would be an understatement. But two of the most prominent giants in their respective industry may be on a path to an improved and more cordial coexistence. On Thursday, Samsung got a new CEO. And sources close to the top say this guy will "play ball" with Apple.

Kwon Oh-hyun is widely viewed as someone who will facilitate an ...

Making headlines in the same way a bad sitcom would on the heels of its cancellation, Apple’s patent-infringement jury trial against Google-owned Motorola Mobility has been "cancelled" by the presiding judge.

The trial was set to begin next week on June 11th (just as WWDC is getting underway). But earlier today, U.S. Circuit Judge Richard A. Posner rejected each side’s damages arguments, according ...

Two days ago, we showed you a jailbreak tweak called Emoji2 for iOS 5.1+. The tweak made you replace a foreign keyboard with a new keyboard that would have many new Emojis that are only visible on iOS devices running iOS 5.1 or newer, and Mac computers running Mac OS X Lion or newer. The unfortunate downside to the tweak was that you had to use an entirely different keyboard to access these Emojis.

Available today is a new jailbreak ...
