As the war between Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS platform continues, both tech giants are racing to stockpile key intellectual property in a bid to stave off a legal extinction event, with Google in particular seeing its patent filings surge last year. In 2011, the Silicon Valley heavyweights were granted 1,234 patents between them. In 2013, this number more than tripled to 3,826, according to patent data compiled from the ...

Apple's iPhone 5s adds Touch ID, a feature capable of scanning your fingerprint to verify that you're the true owner of the iPhone before you gain access to the device and its contents. The feature is really cool, and we're seeing the jailbreak community make some really awesome uses out of the feature, such as some recently-released tweaks like BioProtect and iTouchSecure.

We expect that we'll continue to see even more awesome ...

    Shh... what's that noise? *crickets*

The iOS 7 lock screen is a lot quieter than it used to be in previous versions of iOS. Apple appears to have done away with unlock sounds that play when you unlock your iOS device, although for some reason, they kept the lock sound that plays when you lock your device.

If you want to bring the unlock sound back to the iOS 7 lock screen, you will find a new free jailbreak tweak in Cydia called UnlockSound7 by iOS developer merdok. ...

On your home screen, there are page dots below the last row of home screen application icons, right above your dock. These show you what page of your home screen you're on, and you can tap on them to quickly get from one page to another. On the other hand, if you never use them for anything, what's the point of having them there?

If you're looking to hide the page dots from your iOS home screen, you can do so with a new free jailbreak ...

The older iteration of the Mac Pro hasn’t been available to buy in Europe as changes in regulations meant that the old Mac Pro didn’t comply with the European law. To be more specific, the large exposed fans of the Mac Pro were the reason behind the ban. An amendment required fan guards and minor changes to electrical ports that Apple’s Mac Pro did not meet at the time.

    That ...

iOS 7 brought with it a new card-style App Switcher that some love and some hate. In all honesty, the App Switcher seems to be a dud. Sometimes it registers your swipes exactly as you meant them, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the application icons like to shift regardless of the position of the application previews. It has the reliability of a poorly hacked-together App Switcher that was rushed for a final iOS 7 release.

On the other hand, the App Switcher in iOS 6 worked great! It was reliable, usable, and simple. ...

iOS 7 took a risky leap to all new interface styles and made everything look flatter. One of the applications that just doesn't seem complete in iOS 7 is the Camera application, which was given a black border where all of the buttons appear.

A new free jailbreak tweak called CamBlur7 by iOS developer Poomsmart will transform the Camera application interface so that the interface appears with the great-looking aesthetic appeal of a transparent blur rather than as a black border, as shown above.
