This guide will show you how to jailbreak, unlock, and activate firmware 3.0 on the iPhone 2G (not the iPhone 3G, not the iPhone 3G S) all at once using a custom .ispw created with PwnageTool 3.0.

You need to download PwnageTool 3.0 and the iPhone 2G 3.0 firmware file.

Note: Safari does not download the .ipsw files correctly - it decompresses them as soon as they're downloaded. We don't want that. Use Firefox to download the .ipsw, not Safari. Or you can ctrl+click the decompressed folder & click the compress button.

Connect your iPhone 2G to iTunes and sync it (you will want that back up later)

Note: restoring will remove all Jailbreak app settings and WinterBoard themes. You can back that all up following this guide if you want to.

Once you have downloaded the firmware file and PwnageTool run PwnageTool. OS X my ask you if you really want to run it, choose open.

    Hit OK to the Copyright

This guide teaches you how to jailbreak your iPhone 2G/3G (NOT 3GS) on the 3.0 firmware using Pwnage Tool 3.0 by the iPhone Dev Team. ONLY WORKS FOR OS X.

You can unlock your iPhone 3G AFTER following this guide by using UltraSn0w. Directions on that are here. If you want to unlock your iPhone 2G while Jailbreaking follow this guide. Anyways, lets continue.

Before getting started, you'll need to download a few things:

Pwnage Tool 3.0 - MMi Member Download | RapidShare | torrent

3.0 iPhone Firmware iPhone 3G Direct from Apple (iPhone 2G Firmware is here)

Note: Safari does not download the .ipsw files correctly - it decompresses them as soon as they're downloaded. We don't want that. Use Firefox to download the .ipsw, not Safari. Or you can ctrl+click the decompressed folder & click the compress button.

Alright, now that you've downloaded all that, lets continue.

    Connect your iPhone to iTunes.

You can now Jailbreak firmware 3.0 thanks to the Dev Team's hard work on PwnageTool 3.0.

    Some notes:
    • UltraSn0w is not out yet. If you have an iPhone 3g that NEEDS to be unlocked for you to use it wait until UltraSn0w is released (we will post when that happens) before upgrading to 3.0 and Jailbreaking.
    • iPhone 3g owners that don't need to be unlocked feel free to upgrade and jailbreak.

We're standing here in line at the Tampa International Plaza Apple Store. The time is 6:30AM, and you can see from the images below there's already over 50 people in line - so much for 6AM being early. There's no WiFi available out here in the parking lot, so good ol' PdaNet is my strength when the net is weak.

The Apple store will be opening at 7AM. Of course we pre-ordered, so we should be in there with an iPhone ...

Just hours away here in North America from the iPhone 3G S! If you wanted one, you should have pre-ordered it last week. For those of you that didn't we have some advice:

AT&T stores will be open to the pre-orderers only between 7 am and 9 am. If you didn't pre-order you'll need to be inline early in the morning, 5-6 am in many areas, to have a shot of grabbing an iPhone 3G S. We don't expect AT&T stores to have large quantities on hand. ...

These crazy guys in France got their iPhone 3G S right away in order to . . . . disassemble it. I'm not planning on doing this when I get mine. They did, however, confirm some hardware specs while they were at it.
    • CPU is a Samsung S5PC100 ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz, PowerVR SGX graphics
    • 256 MB RAM
If for some odd reason you need a disassembly guide for the ...

This just popped up in my feeds. CNet did some completely unscientific speed testing comparing the iPhone 3G S, the iPhone 3G, and the Palm Pre. While some of the tests are entirely based on signal strength its still fun to watch while waiting for some jailbreak and unlock action!

    The Power on Test
    • Winner - iPhone 3G S at 19.34 seconds!
    • Second - iPhone 3G at 48.18

Stores across the continent received shipments of the iPhone 3G S yesterday. MMi reader djnikk, working at FutureShop in Quebec (FutureShop is the Canadian Best Buy, they sell iPhones too) took some quick shots of boxes that have arrived in their store.

This particular location got about a dozen iPhones of various color/size combinations. A dozen isn't very many iPhones for a store, but pre-ordering ...

    Sirius/XM Radio on the iPhone.

You've been asking for it a good long while. uSirius filled the need for a short while but didn't last... and now Sirius has finally stepped up to the table and released an AppStore app for streaming Sirius/XM radio to your iPhone. The app is free if you have an XM or Sirius subscription already (well, if you don't the app is free too - but won't do much, ha).

Check this guy out - MMi member eXile, an SF rapper/hip-hop artist, has created an entire hip-hop tune dedicated to the "iPheezie" - fo shiz.

Pimpin' ain't easy. "But you can dial up easy on the iPheezie and ask "hey shoatee, what it do?'... You can check out iTunes, for the hits that I provide you. MySpace me on the fly, and maybe I reply you."

The official 3.0 jailbreak release is pretty much ready, and I know you're all wondering "so when can I get it?"

Just a quick status update the Dev Team posted this morning:

That pretty much sums it up. We'll let you know as soon as its ready - you can also follow MuscleNerd on Twitter to stay current. ...

Many of you have been playing with firmware 3.0 beta versions for a very long time, and many features have been detailed here at ModMyi over the past couple months. Now that firmware 3.0 is officially out it's time to for the complete list and review of all the new 3.0 features here in one place!

Maybe there is something you haven't noticed yet! Without further adieu and in what ever order I run across things while writing this:

    Copy & Paste & Cut & Undo

One of my personal favorite new features, copy & paste is a long overdue feature which is finally implemented. It takes a bit of getting used to, but after the first few times it becomes second nature (well almost).

To use hold your finger in one place over an area of text. The magnifying glass will pop up and you'll have the options for "Select" "Select all" and "Paste" (Paste only pops up if you have something copied already and are in an editable txt area). If you choose "Select" you get some little doo-dads (technical term) that you can move around to select what you want to copy. "Select ...
