AppleInsider reports that Radio Shack, which is getting ready to become the next retail outlet for the iPhone in the US, will offer a trade-in program to users of smartphones who wish to upgrade or switch. According to the report, the electronics chain will be the number two retailer in terms of the number of outlets, after giant Walmart.

Having begun accepting submissions for iPad apps a week ago, titles have begun appearing on iTunes Preview, though they're not yet available for download. Apparently, developers are renaming iPad versions of their apps with an “HD” or “XL” suffix to distinguish the larger-format versions from existing iPhone and iPod touch compatible apps. The listings were quickly pulled, but the apps appeared ...

In the last twenty-four hours, reports have surfaced from individuals who pre-ordered an iPad that their credit/debit cards have been charged for the purchase. This development obviously suggests that the shipping process is underway. Interestingly, some tablet buyers are similarly reporting that payment processing suggests that the iPad 3G is also preparing for takeoff.

    In addition to ...

If you don't have an Ivy League education, perhaps that will now change courtesy of your trusty iPod. Of course, it won't come with a diploma, but it also won't come with a forty-year student loan payment. In this regard, Harvard University's decision to put college course materials on iTunes U is providing many with the first opportunity of their life to learn a few things Harvard style ...

I feel like it's groundhog day with this announcement. GeoHot who has been almost silent on the untethered jailbreaking issues, is indeed still in the game and has finally announced an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G, 3G, and we can only assume the iPad!

While the groundhog may have poked his head out, he left no real indication of when the winter season ...

A big concern among electronic rights activists has been that Apple's new iBookstore for e-books will be hobbled by the same Digital Rights Management (DRM) software that Apple had initially used for iTunes music and still uses for video content. However, according to someone who has gotten a sneak preview of titles on the iBookstore, free books from Project Gutenberg - possibly all 30,000 ...

In an interesting patent application revealed this week, Apple describes a way to backlight notebook screens using a reflector to direct ambient light to the display. The patent application, filed in September of 2008, also references a way that the same apparatus could be used to focus light on solar cells that would recharge the device's battery.

The experience of trying to read ...

AT&T said this week that it will be ready to introduce its 3G MicroCell nationwide by the middle of April. Serving as a signal booster and, hopefully, the remedy for reception issues, the AT&T 3G MicroCell has been likened to a wireless router for your mobile phone. Providing a small but substantial cell signal upon connection to your network, the 3G MicroCell should help reduce dropped ...

Here's how it all went down at the fourth annual Pwn2Own hacking contest in Vancouver last night. The iPhone fell. And from the looks of it, the Apple device hardly even put up a fight. And on Wednesday, the Pwn2Own hacker contest resulted in Vincenzo Iozzo and Ralf Weinmann winning $15,000 for their mad hacking skills.

Highlighting the kind of behavior that keeps internet security experts awake at ...

Leaders from the US Army's technology command visited Apple at its Cupertino headquarters as part of a program to investigate the use of consumer electronic products on the battlefield. The US military has been radically upgrading its Army command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) systems, as technology advances - in many cases built on inventions originally developed ...

It's now possible to enjoy Palm OS apps on a jailbroken iPhone. Thanks to StyleTap, your iPhone (or iPod Touch) can essentially be modded into a Palm device. Granted, the iPhone is kind of arriving late to the party. StyleTap, after all, already serves up Palm OS emulation for Symbian and Windows Mobile. And while it may seem strange to some that there is still such demand for the Palm OS, it does exist. ...

Steve Jobs notably introduced the iPad as an entirely new class of device: "something in the middle" between a laptop and a smartphone. It's a smart approach, because it potentially appeals to anyone who would get either an iPod or a MacBook: pretty much everybody. But the pitch has left users without a clear idea about what the device would be good for and why they would want one. A couple ...
