One little-noticed upgrade to the AT&T iPad 2's 3G radio will make a big difference to many users outside the US and international travelers: the refreshed tablet now supports quad-band UMTS, like the iPhone 4. The original iPad, as well as the iPhone 3G/3GS, only had tri-band UMTS, omitting support for the 900 MHz band common in Asia and parts of Europe. The Verizon model's CDMA radio, on ...

Skyfire is quite possibly the best app available for watching Flash videos on an iOS device. The iPad version received a substantial update not too long ago, but the iPhone and iPod Touch versions have remained largely unchanged until now. Skyfire 3.0 has just been released and with it comes a host of new features that were previously only available with the iPad version.

The lower menu bar or Skybar has been ...

The MacBook Air is a huge hit for Apple with an estimated 1.1 million 11-inch and 13-inch models sold during the fourth quarter of last year. The MacBook Air launch has been the most successful Mac launch for Apple to date. Thatís quite an achievement considering just how successful the entire MacBook line has been for Apple over the years.

When discussing sales, Apple rarely breaks down these figures ...

The saga of Geohot continues. This week Federal Magistrate Joseph Spero officially authorized Sony to subpoena Geohot's web provider to secure the official log of IP addresses that visited GeoHot.com between January 2009 and today.

The reason given for the controversial decision to give Sony access to the log is that the data will provide an accurate picture of the extent to which the defendant ...

Although this story came as a surprise to my contacts on the sales floor of a Best Buy retail outlet, a new report from Forbes claims that all floor sales associates may soon find a sweet present at work with their name on it - a new iPad 2. Why? Although the company didn't do this (nationwide, at least) for the release of the first-generation iPad, it's thought that Best Buy wants its sales ...

The iPad 2 announcement has met with favorable reviews pretty much across the board, with consumers and tech writers alike finding much to cheer about with the lighter, faster tablet. Praise came from an unfamiliar source on Friday, though, as the vice president of one of Apple's main competitors called his own product "inadequate" in comparison. Samsung VP Lee Don-joo also signaled that they might have ...

GarageBand is being released next week and with it, a whole new way of recording audio on the iPad. The iPad 2 includes the same built-in microphone as the pervious version, but recording audio with it hasnít always produced the best sounding results. If you really want to capture high quality audio, then you have to use another device in conjunction with an iPad to do so. Thatís where Apogeeís new JAM comes in. JAM is a studio ...

Probably the most significant new feature of the iPad 2 (except, I guess, for those planning on carrying it around like a very big camera) is the new A5 processor. Apple's claiming twice the performance and up to nine times the graphics power. As usual, though, they were mum on the details of what's inside the chip. A (so far unsubstantiated) report out today, though, says that not only has Apple included ...

It may have seemed obvious that Verizon would carry the iPad 2 at its retail outlets, but only today - two full days after the iPad 2 was introduced - has Verizon officially acknowledged Apple's second generation tablet with a new splash screen teasing its arrival next Friday. Until Verizon posted today's message, it was unclear if the carrier's retail outlets would be among the various stores ...

Apple is said to be actively engaged in negotiations with four major record labels to give iOS device users something they desperately want - expanded access to their digital music across all of their iOS devices. As a result, progress is apparently being made, the eventual outcome of which could be a new agreement between Apple and its largest digital music providers by the middle of 2011. ...

Late yesterday Apple began pushing iOS 4.3 GM to Apple Developers in anticipation of the iPad 2 launch. Alongside this release is Xcode 4 to developers as well. iOS 4.3 will include personal hotspot features, a faster Safari, the new AirPlay features and a handful of other new features when it is launched March 11th.

If your not a developer and interested in the iOS 4.3 GM, you'll be pleased ...

The put-an-iPad-in-your-car trend hasn't really caught on, and that's kind of a shame. The iPad really does make an ideal instrument panel/car audio controller, but implementations to date haven't been that impressive. However, Volkswagen has been turning heads at the Geneva Auto Show with it's 21st century re-imagining of the VW Bus as an electric vehicle with a built-in iPad, and the way they implemented it is drawing raves.
