Temple Jump. Tiny Birds. Numbers With Friends. The names sound familiar. The characters might even elicit a double take. A few could reside on your phone. These apps all share the same characteristics: They’re blatant rip-offs of highly successful games and they’re no longer available in the App Store.

Apple removed the aforementioned games from the App Store for blatant ...

How would you like to have books in your Newsstand application?

iOS 5 shipped with a new application - or should I say 'folder-looking-thing' that contains all of your magazines, newspapers, and subscriptions of that sort from Apple's online store. For many of us, it is the most useless application that we could have ever asked for because almost all of the subscriptions cost money - something that a lot of us don't feel the need to spend. For this reason, many tweaks have been invented to ...

Our coverage of Motorola’s brief injunction against the sale of 3G iDevices in Germany yesterday questioned whether Motorola or Apple was being unreasonable in the licensing negotiations. Evidence is pointing to Motorola's demands wandering into the unreasonable.

Information released by FOSS patents suggest Motorola’s 3G technologies FRAND licensing offer to Apple that would end the ...

Want a banner when your iDevice begins a new song?

If you have ever wanted to know what song your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad just switched to, then there is a great free jailbreak tweak available on the BigBoss repo by iOS developer and hacker Ryan Petrich dubbed MusicBanners. As you can see from the image above, MusicBanners renders an iOS 5 notification banner with your song information, album artwork, and Music application icon on it. This banner appears ...

Does Siri take up too much room for you?

If you feel like Siri has a large graphical user interface and you want to shrink it a little to make it appear smaller, then maybe it's time to put Siri on a diet with a new jailbreak tweak by iOS developer Ron Melkhior. The tweak has been dubbed TinyAssistant and it compresses the Siri GUI into an App Switcher-sized window.

TinyAssistant allows you to lose the, "What can I help you with?" quote bubble and it really tightens ...

So, you've downloaded Spire, but you want to get Siri functionality.

Spire is the Siri GUI port that was brought to use by Grant Paul and Ryan Petrich. It works on any iOS 5 iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch (excluding the iPhone 4S since Siri is already there). It isn't a full port; it is a GUI that lacks Siri functionality until the user gets that functionality themselves. There are a few ways to get that functionality. One way is to set up your own Siri server and use your own (or someone else's) iPhone 4S as the go-to to using Siri. This means that you will need to update your own server with new iPhone 4S keys daily.

If the daily routine of updating your server's keys sounds absolutely cumbersome to you, then there is the painless option of using Siri server hosts. Almost all of them support Spire. There are many ...

Apple seems to have reached new heights in unit sales and revenues but its devices seem to have won over 75% of the mobile phone profits with just 9% of units sold in the market. Despite its relatively low share of al units, Apple still managed to take in the most revenues and earns by far. Asymco writer Horace Dediu, who is a former Nokia analyst, graphically depicted this for everyone to see:

    Dediu previously presented ...

At a recent academic lecture by former iPhone product marketing engineer Bob Borchers, the Cupertino colleague of Steve Jobs fondly reflected on how the late Apple CEO "motivated" the first team that designed and created the revolutionary first generation iPhone.

According to Borchers, Jobs wasn't principally concerned with creating a high-end snazzy mobile device for powering diverse apps. Rather, Jobs wanted ...

Check out this new Notification Center launching animation.

Flowtation is a jailbreak tweak invented by Ori Kadosh that lets you have a new kind of animation for launching Notification Center. The original goal was to take one of Max Rudberg's designs and make it a reality, however the initial launch didn't quite yield the exact same results as Rudberg's videos did. Because of this, Ori released his original concept as a whole new animation ...
