  • Miraculously, iOS 6.1.1 Beta Doesn't Patch the evasi0n Jailbreak... Yet

Yesterday afternoon, Apple released iOS 6.1.1 beta to developers. The update surprised many of us, as it came out only two days after the evasi0n untethered iOS 6 jailbreak was released. The evasi0n jailbreak supports iOS 6.0, iOS 6.0.1, iOS 6.0.2, and iOS 6.1.

Miraculously, a Tweet from pod2g this morning states that iOS 6.1.1 beta does not yet patch the evasi0n iOS 6 jalbreak. This is interesting, considering that iOS 6.1.1 beta does not have an expiration date. It could be that Apple won’t release iOS 6.1.1 to the public until the jailbreak is patched.

Whatever the case may be, pod2g still advises that we stay away from iOS 6.1.1, as evasi0n will not jailbreak the release. MuscleNerd also advised on Wednesday that we stay away from the update. Pod2g predicts that a future developer version of iOS 6.1.1 will patch the evasi0n jailbreak before the public release.

According to Apple’s changelog, iOS 6.1.1 beta only includes improvements to the Maps application, adding 3-D support for parts of Japan and improving other areas of the application. There are some additional improvements as well. Most of the update is minor and nothing groundbreaking has been added; we'll all live without it.

For those of you on the jailbreak that don't want to be annoyed by an OTA (over the air) badge on your Settings application when the update is pushed to the public, you can download a Cydia tweak called "Software Update Killer" to disable OTA updating on your iOS device(s).

Evasi0n Jailbreak Installed on 1.7 Million Devices Since Monday Release - Mac Rumors

      iOS 6 Adoption Tops 60 Percent | News & Opinion | PCMag.com
Can they tell how many individual devices were jailbroken with evasi0n? I know they can tell how many times the software was downloaded, but I know a few people who jailbroke 3 or 4 devices on their computer. Is 1.7 million the number of evasi0n downloads, or evasi0n jailbreaks?

If this is a repeat of events that happend in Dec '11 through Feb '12, there was a long period of only tethered JB for iOS 5. Apple did much the same thing, relesed 5, 5.0.1, 5.1 and then 5.1.1 inclose proximity. 5.1.1 was the best and most stable.

iOS 6 mostly was made to support iPhone 5's though, whereas iOS 5 was released mainly to support the 4S.

So, if the progression repeats itself, because I do believe in Cyclic Time, iOS 6.1.1 will come out, it will be easily patched, and we'll have it for a good long while until Apple decides to upturn the "applecart" again.

Well, last time I checked the numbers were about 40 to 60 million. I think they can count it through cYdia.

It's marketing. New software we're so cool. I wouldn't buy an iPhone if I didn't think it was jailbreakable at some point. Seemed like a leap of faith getting the 5 prior to there being a jb for it, it was a painful 6 months waiting.

Yes they can, each device has a UDID and when cydia is opened it sends that UDID number to Sauriks servers, allowing him to see how many actual devices have been jailbroken

I think if they leave us alone, we might lose interest in the iphone. I think Apple realizes that we are a necessary evil, but cannot just give in. What fun is it if your wife lets you do what you want, its funner when you sneak! LOL!

Don't get your hopes up. With patching 5.1.1, it took weeks for apple to release the next beta.

That's interesting. I noticed faster battery consumption with my 5. I use about 5 (max) tweaks from cydia.
