  • How to Jailbreak your iPhone 5 or iOS 6.x iDevice with evasi0n

NOTE: This guide is now outdated. The current guide uses evasi0n 7, and is at http://modmyi.com/content/13169-how-...evasi0n-7.html .

    {last updated March 12th, 2013}

This Windows, OS X, and Linux guide will teach you how to jailbreak various devices using evasi0n. The current version of evasi0n is 1.5.3. Note this is an UNTETHERED JAILBREAK, meaning you can reboot your phone just like you normally would.

This guide should be used with the following device/firmware combinations (if you're not sure, here's how to find your iOS firmware version and how to find your iOS device type):
    • iPhone 3GS | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.2
    • iPhone 4 | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.2
    • iPhone 4S | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.1, 6.1.2
    • iPhone 5 | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.2
    • iPod touch 4G | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.2
    • iPod touch 5G | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.2
    • iPad 2 | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.2
    • The New iPad (third generation) | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.2
    • iPad With Retina Display (fourth generation) | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.2
    • iPad Mini | 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.2

NOTE: The team that put together this jailbreak (@pimskeks, @planetbeing, @pod2g, and @MuscleNerd) IS accepting donations - please feel free to donate via PayPal if you're able! You can also do so on their website (same PayPal); scroll down and click the green Contribute button.

NOTE: Before running the evasi0n jailbreak, you should fully back up your data via iCloud (Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Back Up Now) or iTunes.

If you are on a lower firmware version than iOS 6.1.2 (again, here's how to check), it is highly recommended you update your phone to iOS 6.1.2 BEFORE jailbreaking. If you haven't yet, you should do this through iTunes, NOT over the air (it's ok if you already have) by following this guide.

Alright, let's assume you're now on iOS 6.1.2 (this guide will also work on iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, and 6.1.1, but it is best to update to 6.1.2) and backed up.

Let's get started. First thing you'll need to do is download the version of evasi0n for your operating system:

    OS X evasi0n 1.5.3 at mod.my/evasi0nmac153.
    Windows evasi0n 1.5.3 at mod.my/evasi0nwin153.
    Linux evasi0n 1.5.3 at mod.my/evasi0nlin153.

Double-click the zip file to unzip it if your browser didn't automatically unzip the file.

Making sure your device is connected, and only one device, double-click evasi0n to launch it. You will see the evasi0n home screen, and evasi0n should tell you your device (and firmware version) is detected. Click the Jailbreak button to begin.

evasi0n will tell you it is connecting to the device, then retrieving information from the device to generate Jailbreak data. This process can take a minute or two, be patient and don't press anything.

evasi0n will then go through many status messages while it reboots and jailbreaks your device. This process also can take a few minutes. Do not touch or unplug the device during this process.

Side note - the step saying "Uploading Cydia packages list..." is a brilliant move on the evad3rs part - it includes a recent list of all packages on default Cydia repositories, including ours, which means when millions of users open Cydia for the first time on their newly jailbroken devices, our servers are not immediately hit with large file downloads. Thanks to saurik for the idea and the evad3rs for the implementation!

At the end of this process, evasi0n will let you know there is now a new Jailbreak icon on your iDevice, and to unlock your device and tap the icon. ONLY TAP THE ICON ONCE, LEAVING YOUR DEVICE CONNECTED.

After doing so, evasi0n will run through more status messages as it continues to jailbreak your iDevice. Don't touch anything.

Cydia is now on your iDevice! You can press Exit in evasi0n now - your jailbreak is complete.

That's it! You're now holding a jailbroken device. Not too bad, eh?

NOTE: If you get stuck on any of the following messages: "Initializing offsets, Finding offsets, patching kernel, or cleaning up," for more than 5 minutes, you can simply do a hard reboot (hold Power and Home buttons for 10-15 seconds until the iDevice restarts).

Man, the google doc with the list of 6.0 compatible cydia apps is even harder to get into than cydia.

I've refreshed that page many many times and still haven't gotten access.

Anyone have an alternate link to a page where they list which apps work and which don't?

      Any help would be appreciated.

yes all you have to do is load up cydia go rob your neighbors house dont worry you wont get to download anything because everyone is trying that so you will have an alibi that you were trying to load up cydia when you were actually committing this horrendous crime

I've been able to reinstall some apps: Intelliscreen is one.
I know Cydia is hammered but is there a specific prob with call blocker? I keep getting a forbidden message in red

My iPad is stuck on 'injecting stage 2 jailbreak data (step1/3)...(do not touch your device)'
And never gets past that. I've tried 3 times now and it gets to the same exact spot every time.

      Anybody else experiencing this issue?

Btw. I was able to JB my iPhone 5 w/ out any issues.

      Thanks!

Guy someone help me. I did the jailbreak on my Mac and everything went great. I later than went into Cydia to download Winterboard and you have to reboot your device, of course. So.. without even thinking of the possibility, my phone just didn't boot up. It stayed on the apple boot up logo and didn't boot... :/ soo... I decided to do the jailbreak again, same ******* problem.. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?! Oh.. and I'm using an iPhone 4s on 6.1

You need to do a hard reboot, maybe two or three times. Hold power and home together until it reboots, when the apple logo comes back release home button but keep holding power. Then the device will turn off. Wait 30 seconds and turn on. Do this until the device boots, might take a couple attempts.

This will fix the non rebooting problem I'm facing? So after the jailbreak, do that two - three times?

Figured out what was wrong w/ IntelliXscreen. My dumbass didn't have the latest version. Fail. Everything works well now.

Oh and I got MenuWeather running on my 4S. I was able to go outside today.

Yep 2 or 3 hard reboots is all that fixes it for now.

The "startup in safe mode" and Respring doesn't work for me as someone else said.

Just leave your phones on gang til the devs fix this. The only tweak that requires a reboot is Winterboard. After installing Winterboard just hard reboot 3 times. It'll come back on. Then just leave your phone on!!

You do NOT have to restore!!!

I can confirm ssh'ing into iphone 5 and overwriting systemsoundbehavior.plist and systemsoundbibrationpatterns.plist still works for haptic feesback
