  • Springtomize 2 Gets iOS 6 Support, New Features, Free Upgrade for Existing Owners

Springtomize 2, a popular jailbreak application for deep customization of the SpringBoard for iOS 5, has now been extended with support for iOS 6. Springtomize 2 comes with many different categories of customization and can keep you from having to install multiple different jailbreak tweaks to get the same job done. Itís really a super tweak.

Unlike the upgrade from iOS 4 to iOS 5, where Springtomize 2 became a different package from the original Springtomize, Springtomize 2 has been updated to run on both iOS 5 and iOS 6. This means that existing owners of Springtomize 2 can upgrade to the updated version of Springtomize 2 with iOS 6 support for free without having to buy another application to get the iOS 6 support.

In case youíre not familiar with Springtomize 2, it adds an application icon to your home screen and a preferences pane to your Settings application. You can access either of these to get to Springtomize 2ís options. From the options, youíll be able to customize all kinds of features of your SpringBoard, such as your deviceís animations, capabilities, features of the dock, features of the lock screen, features of your icons, features of your folders, features of your App Switcher, features of your Status Bar, features of Notification Center, and a whole lot more.

In addition to support for iOS 6, the update includes many fixes and performance enhancements, as a lot of the code was re-written from scratch. Some new features have been added as well.

Some of the new features include:

    • Apply effects to your wallpaper, such as:
      1. Grayscale
      2. Sepia
      3. Negative
      4. Faded colors
      5. Psycho
      6. Red ascendant
      7. Green ascendant
      8. High contrast
    • Apply effects to your home screen icons, such as:
      1. Negative
      2. Faded colors
      3. Psycho
      4. Red ascendant
      5. Green ascendant
      6. High contrast
    • Ability to disable icon dimming when opening folders
    • Improved check for backup
    • Faster loading

The Grayscale on Grayscale effect looks cool:

    Some of the fixes include:

    • Restored the old "Hide Knob" option to hide the lock screen slider
    • No more conflicts with f.lux
    • Now uses 'uicache' for cleaning the icon cache
    • Fixes a crash when installing apps

The developer notes that many more new features for Springtomize 2 are on their way. If you haven't purchased Springtomize 2 yet, you'll be able to get it as soon as you can launch Cydia from the BigBoss repository for just $2.99.

Actually I've done more reading on this topic than a lot of others and there's a guru over at iPF.net that's a real expert. Love to hear what Subby can say.

But I found the switch in Springtomize to turn off MultiTasking on my 4S and it worked exactly as I just described in my last post. So I must know more than you think! .. As soon as I turned off multitasking the AppSwitcher is disabled. Now when I launch an app - as I look at my RAM indicator in the status bar it drops by anywhere from 20-50MB.. As soon as I hit the home button - the RAM, within 2 seconds goes back up by the same amount as it dropped while the app is open. So my hope has been realized about how this ability of Springtomize can work! I'm excited!

So what you're saying is you like your apps opening slower?

His name is SkullOne, dude. He can hang with Orby, topic per topic. But we don't need anything from over there. I know that now.

Simon and I agree 100% on this. This is one of the reasons that I switched to a iPhone. While your watching and worrying about your ram, I'm doing the things I want and letting the OS handle it like it was designed to.

I like ONLY the app I'm working on to be loaded in RAM at a given time. Not the last 10 things I've opened. With a jailbreak phone you're always running low on RAM (well at least with only 512 - iP5 has 1GB). So I'm just wanting to minimize the App switcher ram hog thing.

Ram hog has no real meaning on an iPhone.

What do you do when you want to copy fields from one app and paste them in another app, but you can't do it all at once? Multitasking is amazing.

If iOS didn't have automatic RAM management, then I would agree manual management was necessary... lol

Not having to wait for an app to continually load again and again is great for me. I jump from app to app a lot. Having the last few apps I used not have to reload is better for me than seeing a lower number at the top of my screen.

Really?? That would be amazing.. Skull's not a big fan of mine over there.. Haven't ever run into him here as Orby. Only heard Simon sing his praises.

That's why we have icons on a springboard to click on, Simon. Launching the app switcher is more click strikes. Waste of time and adds more time to get to app than just relaunching from SB. App Switcher was a waste for me.

Even if you click on it from the springboard and it is loaded in the app switcher, it doesn't have to fully reload. It just picks up from its suspended state.

You really don't understand how your phone works do you?

      He's right.

If the app is suspended in the background and you open the app from the springboard rather than the task switcher, it's the same execution.

We're just coming at it from different angles. Suspended state often brings the RAM dangerously low - moreso in JB'ed phones than stock. That's where I've experienced the biggest problems with this issue. I'm hoping the 1GB of RAM makes the issue moot. Then I'll gladly keep the multitask function on. JB'ed on a 4S, running the tweaks I like/need, it was killing my phone.

Thats not what I was pushing back on, Anthony.
