Target to get iPad on October 3?
Is this screenshot of a Target PDA proof that the superstore is getting Apple’s iPad
on October 3? Not exactly, but it does offer evidence that Target
may be getting the iPad in time for the holiday shopping season.
A source within Target provided evidence that the retailer would be selling six new products in the “Digital Audio” section of the store. The price points of these new mystery products are exactly the same as current iPad prices, and the new mystery products will be sold in the same section of the store as Kindles and other e-readers. Target already sells Apple’s full line of iPods and accessories, so the addition of the iPad line is a natural move for the retailer.
The iPad was initially only available at a limited number of locations including a few premium resellers like Best Buy. Tim Cook, Apple’s chief operating officer, stated that more brick-and-mortar locations would start to sell the iPad “over time.” Target may be the first retailer to benefit from this expanded availability.
Recently, iPad orders at Apple’s online store list ship times of “within 24 hours.” Initially, iPads were in such short supply, that they were backordered at Apple’s online store. Now that supplies of iPads have increased, Apple may now be ready to expand iPad sales to new retail outlets.
If you’re like me and like receiving gift-cards at the holidays, you might want to start dropping hints now that a Target gift-card would be a good present this year. Hopefully, a new rumor will surface that suggests Target will be getting Apple TVs as well this holiday season. Fingers Crossed.
