  • Minecraft Pocket Edition Receives a Nice Update

The popular mobile edition of Minecraft, called Minecraft Pocket Edition, has received a nice little update today. The game is so popular, in fact, that it outsells all other versions of the game. Multiple bugs have been crushed, as well as new features introduced in today’s 0.6.0 update.

The known bugs that have been removed from the game are issues where falling sand can disappear, and where some objects may disappear upon returning to the game from the home screen.

In terms of new features, players can now have access to baby animations, signs, armor, fancy clouds, gravity for sand and gravel, and lots of new blocks. One of the major new features being the improved D-pad, which now makes controlling your character even easier.

The update is free for existing players of Minecraft Pocket Edition, and you can grab it from the Updates tab in the App Store. Alternatively, you can download the paid version of Minecraft Pocket Edition for $6.99 from this link, or the Lite version of Minecraft Pocket Edition for free from this link. It is a universal application and works on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

      A few notes:

the "lite" version is still version 0.2.1 and hasn't been updated in almost forever.
It gives you a taste, but isn't compatible with anything else.

The "Big Deal" update- which might have been pushed back to 0.7.0 is internet-based multiplayer.
Currently worlds can only be shared on a LAN. (Though, with a hack and a proxy, can be shared globally).

There's a huge modding community at
Minecraft Pocket edition - Minecraft Forum
Most mods are for jailbroken iOS / rooted droid.

Minecraft PE is intercompatible between all mobile platforms, but not compatible with MC on Win/OSX.
Its a huge time sink, productivity drain, waste of money.
      Stay away.

Um... Why even bother playing this? It's like buying a pack of pencils that are only an inch long. If you want to play a good, non-terrible-port game, play MineCraft on the computer.

Unless you enjoy playing with pencils one-and-a-half inches long,
don't play MineCraft on the computer, either.

Yes. Minecraft for mobile devices will never be as good as the PC versions.

I agree for the most part that it won't be as good as the full-blown version. On the other hand, it's not made to be like the full-blown version. It's bringing it to the mobile world, and by rule of thumb, mobile applications have less features than the full-blown versions.

I've played the pocket edition for several hours and find it to be great fun to just build, build, build. It has a lot of features for a mere mobile experience.
