It’s big news today that Apple launched iOS 6.1
to the public after having just launched the fifth beta
on Saturday evening. It’s even bigger news that iOS hackers planetbeing and MuscleNerd have been all over
the update, and have deemed the update as jailbreak safe
, meaning that all of the vulnerabilities found for iOS 6.1 thus far will work with the public release. (So go ahead and update via iTunes!)
So this brings up the big question: How long
until the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1? While we don’t know for sure just yet, MuscleNerd has teased the possibility of a Sunday release in one of his Tweets, where he asks what everyone will be doing on Sunday, the day of the Super Bowl, and CCs the evad3rs
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Hey, did everyone know the Super Bowl is this Sunday? What will you be doing? /cc @<a href="https://twitter.com/evad3rs">evad3rs</a> <a href="http://t.co/9fEgKI3b" title="http://evad3rs.com">evad3rs.com</a></p>— MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd) <a href="https://twitter.com/MuscleNerd/status/295964113270620160">January 28, 2013</a></blockquote>

Planetbeing made it clear in one of his Tweets that the jailbreak could take a little time to finish up, as it needs some polishing in terms of hammering out the bugs and creating a tool that the public can download and use to jailbreak their iOS 6.1 devices. In the past, the time it took for hackers to do this wasn’t very long, so this could be a good sign for the future jailbreak as well.
While MuscleNerd, nor the rest of the eva3ders, have not yet clarified what has been planned for Sunday, the Tweet seems mysterious enough to take into consideration. Either way, it should be interesting to see what surprises the hackers have up their sleeves.
