  • iOS Hackers Deem iOS 6.1 Jailbreak Safe, Go Ahead and Update Through iTunes

iOS hackers MuscleNerd and planetbeing have both confirmed that the public release of iOS 6.1 is jailbreak safe! The update is vulnerable to all of the vulnerabilities that the hackers had planned on using to jailbreak iOS 6.1. That being said, update away! (Through iTunes)

According to planetbeing, while the firmware can be jailbroken, it's going to take a little while to get everything all polished up, bug free, and get a jailbreak method that can be released to the public:

If you’re excited to jailbreak your iOS 6.1 devices, the good news is it’s only a matter of time now. The jailbreak will include 22 different variants of iOS devices, including Apple’s new iPhone 5, iPod touch 5G, iPad (fourth generation), and iPad Mini. It will also include older iOS devices that can run iOS 6.1, excluding the Apple TV 3, for now. You can view our post to see the full list of supported devices.

Aren't there tons of unlock services out there already?

Then you simply use someone else. C'mon, Simon, you know as well as anyone that there are plenty of cheap unlock services out there for anyone to use. Now I may be thinking too much like an American and the majority of the cheap unlock services might only be available for AT&T and other American carriers. Is that where I'm missing the point?

Assuming you have OSX, go to System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Firewall>Turn off Firewall. Give that a whirl and see if it'll work.

You could've contacted @chronic about unlocking your iPhone 5 the first day you got it!!!

can anyone tell me if there is the 6.0.1and 2 tethered jb also works for 6.1, or do I have to wait until untethered is released?
I've put together my Dependency.deb to combat the server problem! Hopefully it'll work and, if so, I'll post the link for it when the time comes, k!

Yes, that is where you are missing the point. ATT unlocks are cheap. Other carrier unlocks are far from it. Rogers Canada I pay $95 which is a better price than most would get for that. Sprint and Verizon are in the $130 range. 3UK right now is up to around $170. You really need to start doing some research before making general statements about things based on your own experiences.

Here is verizon on eBay: verizon iphone unlock official | eBay
That is more expensive on eBay than other places but I hope you see it now.

I am surprised that you are preparing for a jailbreak at all yet. You have stated numerous times that until there is video proof, the jailbreak claims are not true.

Did you have a change in heart? This also does not follow the history of jailbreak procedures that you like to profess as always repeating itself. That makes this jailbreak an unprecedented event! How are you dealing with this being in totally uncharted territory here?

I was just pondering these questions this morning as I was catching up on some reading.

You peg me wrong, my dear King' I LOVE new precedent!!! .. It's just usual that history is our best teacher. That's a truism you can go to the bank on. This is still the longest wait EVER for a jailbreak. On that point I was not wrong.

      From Planetbeing this am:

“@evad3rs_team: if all goes well, iOS 6.1 #jailbreak untethered will go public on sunday plz retweet”

But where's the video evidence that you had to have last week?

This could be the greatest hoax yet!

Thanks Simon, guess I missed that with all the hype over upgrading to 6.1, too much useless info in my brain. I need to purge it to make room for new junk.

Sorry bro, my bad. Carry on.

It's cool, I would have assumed the same thing tbh. I just happened to see planetbeing tweet that this morning.

Yes I do have an OSX but I've tried this on both my iPhone 5 & iPad 2 & I still get the same error. Thanks for the help but is there anything else I can do to fix this????

      Thanks in advance
