  • Apple Finally Releases iOS 6.1 to the Public

Apple has Monday afternoon officially launched iOS 6.1 to the public. The update is showing up in the OTA (over the air) updating service and will appear in iTunes if you check for updates. iOS 6.1 Beta 5 was released to developers just this Saturday.

iOS 6.1 contains bug fixes, security improvements, a fix for the touch screen glitch on the iPhone 5 causing the display not to register fast swipes, inclusion of buying movie tickets using Siri through Fandango, more LTE carrier support, the ability for iTunes Match subscribers to download individual songs from iCloud, a new button to reset the Advertising Identifier, and updated iPod music controls on the lock screen.

Jailbreakers will be able to rejoice on this news, as now that iOS 6.1 has been publicly released, the iOS 6.1 untethered jailbreak can officially be released in due time. The hackers behind the jailbreak will be using their time to try and perfect the jailbreak and create a tool that can jailbreak all 22 variants of the iOS devices that can run iOS 6.1.

If you’re on iOS 6.0.2 right now, we recommend you stay on it until hackers give the green light to update to iOS 6.1. When they do, it is recommended you use iTunes and not OTA updating.

Wifi sync but that's gotta be setup from a cable.

I wouldn't do it OTA just go threw iTunes when the time is right. As in devs say its ok to do so.

iOS 6.1 appears to be vulnerable to the exploits we are planning on using.

In terms of code, we have two proof of concepts that we need to merge and polish, so we will not be ready to release until that and testing.

So it appears from build numbers 'beta 5' was the general release.

Apple tried to play it off, but they failed miserably. 😝

Well. Longer than that. Last year, after 5.1 dropped it took them "6 more long weeks" to release the public untether. So stay calm - we're not there yet. By the time they had the injector ready 5.1.1 was just about out and they waited one more week to make sure 5.1.1 was vulnerable to the same exploits. So we likely still have a long wait, gang. But this is significant! It's no longer a matter of 'if' we get a jailbreak - but "when"!!

Remind me - how do you download an update but save for later?

MuscleNerd is hinting Sunday. Although planetbeing was a bit more hesitant to give an exact time frame yet. It shouldn't be more than a week or so I would say.

For any of us who want to get a 'jump start' on our favorite theming tweaks - ahead of the release of the Jailbreak - I've done a lot of studying these last few days and can help get you ready - so when the Cydia servers are getting killed on Day 1 to Day 3 of the release of the jailbreak - you won't have to wait.

This process is NOT for the faint of heart or the noob - but most of us can follow this.

Most of the theming tweaks are updated and ready for iOS6. So check out here.

      CLIK HERE

Have fun getting ready. I'll soon post the way to get the .deb files INTO your phone - but for now just save your main tweaks now before jailbreak releases.

This is a "SIMON, the Moderator and Veteran Jailbreak GURU"-approved process. Many thanks to him for all his insight and confirmations that the info I gathered from many sites is 'on the money'.
