Google Created Five of Top Six U.S. Mobile Apps for 2012
Despite Apple trying to slowly wean itself from being dependent on Google for Maps, YouTube, Search and other fun stuff, Google has managed to become one of the top developers for iOS. In 2012, five of the six most used apps in the U.S. were made by Google and even Facebook just barely beat out Google Maps for the number one spot.
According to a new report from comScore, Facebook, Google Maps, Google Play, Google Search, Gmail and YouTube were the six most used apps in the U.S. while Pandora, iTunes, Cooliris, and Yahoo! Messenger rounded out the top 10. Apple’s decision to drop Google Maps from iOS 6 is probably what led Facebook to become the most popular app as Google Map’s usage experienced a big drop in October of 2012. Facebook was not only the top app but was also ranked first for mobile app engagement, with the company’s second app, Instagram coming in second.
