  • Team of iOS Hackers Call Themselves the "evad3rs"

Remember the Dream Team that was assembled to get the iPhone 4S and iOS 5 jailbroken? It seems that the league of jailbreak hackers have come up with another name for themselves as they continue their efforts towards an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak. They now call themselves, the evad3rs.

The lineup of hackers in the team dubbed evad3rs is slightly different from the Dream Team, however. The lineup includes iOS hackers pod2g, planetbeing, MuscleNerd, and pimskeks. All of these names should ring a bell, as they've been a huge part of the jailbreak community for so long.

Pod2g clarifies in the Tweet who the members of the evad3rs group are to help eliminate confusion on who is working on the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak so that donations go to their right places and not to scammers trying to take advantage of the situation. At the same time, pod2g states that the team is not accepting donations at this point in time.

Pod2g and planetbeing have announced progress on two different fronts, one being that they have found themselves two potentially useful vulnerabilities in one day, and the other saying that the future is looking bright for jailbreaking and urging the release of iOS 6.1.

We continue to offer positive support for our hackers and wish them the best of luck in their new alliance.

It does but I'm also on a dual band n router

Mine don't buffer, but I have great Internet speeds from Verizon FiOS. I use a Linksys N router with dual-band Wi-Fi.

May be time to visit the apple store. I don't have fios speeds unfortunately but i do have a 12 meg line and that should be plenty fast. Never have an issue on any other IDevice other than my Iphone 5

Before I had Verizon FiOS I had 11Mb/s down and my videos would buffer constantly. If you're using Google's YouTube app, this is because the application renders videos in their highest quality automatically when on Wi-Fi.

Yeah and even if it renders in SD it's so crappy I can't see what's going on.

The problem is I use the same app on every other device and no buffer issues. This only came about on the iPhone 5. Also my speed tests are slower on my i5 than other devices

Yeah. It's time to go to Apple Store, bro. I have Comcast's faster home service which promises 50mb down. And I have an 'n' dual band wifi router.

Just now on my SPEEDTEST.NET on both my iP5 and iP4S side by side I'm getting
23.30Mbps down on the iPhone 5 and
21.25Mbps down on the iPhone 4S.

(for a fun tidbit - when I switch the iP5 to LTE - I get 34.30Mbps down! wow -- faster than my ISP provider's fastest WIFI.. )

That's exactly what I remembered and expected. They're virtually identical.

Have you tried RESET ALL NETWORK SETTINGS yet on the 5?

      Grant

I too get promised 50 down by Verizon, and with my dual-band N router these are my results (smaller screen is iPhone 4, larger display obviously iPhone 5):

      My LTE :P

I believe the issue is more likely your network than the iPhone. If not that, YouTube is just poorly made. Have you tried the Web-based YouTube?

But you're experiencing the same "much slower" Wifi on your 5 than 4S, Anthony. Any thoughts? Is this a common thing out there you've been hearing about?

Look at his results he posted in his pics, Simon. 43 down on 4S and only 19 down on the 5 - both on Wifi.

His iPhone 5 is the one with 43. His iPhone 4 the one with 19.

Simon is right, my iPhone 5 is fine. Slower speeds are from non-dual band iPhone 4.

Oh.. He said the larger one was the 5. I thought the white bars one was indicating the 5 - that's an optical illusion. My error.

My ip5 gets nowhere near such a difference in wifi over my 4S.

iPhone 5 is the only iPhone that has the 5GHz Wi-Fi channel. iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S are not dual-band and they're slower than iPhone 5 when connecting to a dual-band N router with fast ISP speeds. Check it out:

      Compare iPhones

If your iPhone 5 is getting the same speed as your 4S on a 50Mb/s network, I would say the router isn't dual-band.

Yeah... but I had the iphone 4 with 5.1.1 until my phone got stolen... so instead i am now stuck with just an ipod touch 5th gen which is without a jailbreak and I personally hate the bigger screen. it doesnt make my hand fit better like apple says, it just makes it harder to reach the top of the screen when holding with one hand................

Great info, Anthony. Time to get a new router. I did not know about 'dual band' routers. I thought mine was. It is not. Obviously. Thanks! Always something new to learn here.
