  • FireCore Updates aTV Flash (black) to Version 2.1

    The folks over at FireCore have just given users with jailbroken Apple TVs another reason to be happy. They announced an update for the popular aTV Flash (black) software suite that the company developed. The update brings the app to version 2.1 and features several improvements including new TV show playlist options, customizable favorites and more. The full changelog of aTV Flash (black) 2.1 can be found below:

    • NEW! TV Show Playlists – easily pick up from the last unwatched episode
    • NEW! Custom Favorites – create favorites from almost anything, including search terms
    • Big speed improvements while browsing movies/shows
    • Library and Search items can now be hidden from main menu
    • Now showing ‘Writers’ instead of ‘Producers’ on pre-playback screen
    • .ite folders are now hidden from view
    • Hidden files are no longer included in slideshows
    • Better metadata fetching
    • Better trakt syncing and scrobbling
    • Better handling of network settings and errors
    • Many search related improvements
    • Many subtitle related improvements (special characters, performance, etc…)
    • Fixed rare Last.fm scrobbling issue
    • Fixed rare problems when playing audio files
    • Fixed a few memory related issues
    • iOS 6 support
    • Many other bug fixes and improvements

    Of the new features, the updated Favorites feature is one of the more favored ones as it allow users to access their favorite content on the Apple TV in a more convenient way. Users can set shortcuts to certain seasons of their favorite TV shows to prevent having to navigate through several menus, providing ease of access.

    For those of you aren’t familiar with the software, aTV Flash (black) is only available for the second-generation Apple TV since there is no jailbreak for the Apple TV 3 yet. Although it claims that it is compatible with iOS 6, there isn’t an untethered jailbreak for that yet either. Those of you who already own aTV Flash (black) can download version 2.1 for free by opening the app on your Apple TV and navigating to Maintenance then Manage Extras. Users who don’t own the software can purchase it from FireCore’s website for $29.95.

      Still waiting for that ATV3 jailbreak so I can enjoy this.
      I'm guessing it'll never come so it'll just sit there collecting dust. I should put it back in the box as that way it wont collect dust.

      Wow. Apple TV is great with or without a jailbreak. Sucks you don't use it just because it has to be jailbroken.

      Agreed! You don't need a JB ATV to get good use out of it. I use mine almost everyday listening to music or watching vids via airplay, it's great!

      Just found a great program called Beamer,can stream any movie on my mid 2007 iMac to my ATV3 flawlessly,so I'm not bothered about JB now,although I still would

      Atv is good right out of the box but its absolutely great when jailbroken. I still prefer to use my atv1 with crystal hd over my atv2. Hd movies on icefilms and also navi x are awesome. I just did this update so far so good, atv2 seems to be running stable.

      I've googled and googled. Alot just say it can run apps. But what apps. What can I get with a jailbroken at2?

      I use my ATV2 everyday! Jailbreak or not it's a great little box top media set. I actually just unjailbroke my device due to some performance issues how ever. ATV is one of the best $100 I ever spent

      My guess is people that think atv is useless with out a jailbreak are people that have a large amount of non iTunes compatible videos/movies.

      One of the only true benefits of having your atv jailbroken is the ability to play other formats of media. Other than that. Pretty much the stock Apple TV does everything else.

      I will be absolutely ecstatic when apple allows apps on the Apple TV! Plex will get ported and I won't need a jailbreak at all!!

      I use my apple TV2 everyday and I love it being jailbroken.
      The fact why Apple TV 3 may never be jailbroken is because Apple TV cannot be restored with powered ON unlike iPhones . You need a bootrom exploit ..therefore the wait goes on and on .

      I have a 2 tb hard drive attached to an AirPort Extreme base station with many movies in mkv format. These are smaller file size. With firecore, you can stream these to your JB atv2. Also, streaming my iTunes or iPhone music to the Apple TV w/o JB is awesome, along with AirPlay mirroring and playing games on the big screen from the idevice. Good stock, better jailbroken.

      If you own atv1 or 2 and havent jailbroken it yet, you're mising a lot of good stuff. I dont even need to stream movies from pc or storage devices because you can already watch it if you have xmbc installed, lots of HD quaity movies too.

      Apple TV is a great device for £99, with iCloud and iPad it is a simple way of watching content from many sources!! But apple could make it slight better if would add sources like iplayer straight to the Apple TV box!

      I love my Apple Tv's. I have a 2nd gen in every room. Jailbroken or not, they are amazing. However, I do prefer them Jailbroken

      I love my atv2 i think i bought mine just in time, its jailbroken and i have xbmc installed with plugins like ice oneclick one channel project free....the list goes on....this was how i survived without cable for a year and a half, its amazing, all free everything! Ive never been a fan of atvflash black because i have no reason to use its features but if u can get a hold of an atv2 get it. It will change your life.

      When you have 7TB of NAS storage mostly filled with movies and TV shows and arn't able to watch them on the ATV3 without it being jailbroken is really annoying. ATV format or not doesn't matter as they still cant be played from a NAS on the ATV without a jailbreak.
      I had to go get a WDTV and now happy again.
      Again another device thats NOT Apple wins.
      If the ATV3 finally gets jailbroken then it might get more use, till then it collects dust.

      Oh I do actually use it, when I want to show others youtube clips from my iPad3 I do AirPlay them via the ATV3. Thats the only use it gets. 1 Youtube clip every 6 months. Yea, my $100 was well spent... NOT!

      I still don't see why I would need ATV?
      I have a desktop PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and I am subscribed to Netflix.
      It is hookep up to my Sony XBR Flatscreen via HDMI.
      The TV is also compatible and has Netflix, HULU, Crackle, etc., available directly without the PC.
      MY PC is a couple of years old and has the Nvidia GTX460 graphics card.
      Everything that is 1080P is processed and sent to the TV correctly.

      Who is saying you need one? Lol. If you don't need one does that mean no one else does?

      Here is why I use them. My desktop is in my office, my main tv is in the living room and I have my bedroom TV. So while you hook up your computer to your tv that's not possible for me.

      Atv allows me to stream all my content in any room at anytime. Also let's say I want to listen to some music. Like on cleaning day I turn my music on my pc and can tell it to play sound out of both apple tvs and my speakers on my desktop. So now I have music going through my entire house synced up flawless.
