  • AT&T Turns On 4G LTE in Ten More Markets Following Verizon's Slap in the Face Yesterday

Just yesterday, Verizon gave AT&T a run for their money and turned on their 4G LTE network in 29 more U.S. cities. AT&T also enabled their 4G LTE network in 5 new U.S. cities just this Tuesday while expanding others. With Verizon enabling their 4G LTE network at nearly six-fold the rate of AT&T, AT&T has quickly joined the race and turned on their 4G LTE in another 10 U.S. cities today. This is why competition is good!

The following U.S. cities will now be able to connect to AT&Ts 4G LTE network starting today:

    • Boise, Idaho
    • Boulder, Colorado
    • Bowling Green, Kentucky
    • Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
    • Hartford, Connecticut
    • Lancaster, Pennsylvania
    • Lexington, Kentucky
    • New Haven, Connecticut
    • Ogden, Utah
    • Providence, Rhode Island

Apples latest iPad, iPad Mini, and iPhone 5 can all take advantage of AT&Ts blazing fast 4G LTE network, which although is expected to offer a theoretical download speed of 100Mb/s, users only report around 20-60Mb/s due to the realism of network congestion.

AT&T users also get the benefit of being able to drop down to 4G HSPA+ when 4G LTE is not in range, offering a theoretical download speed of 14.4Mb/s rather than 3Gs theoretical download speed of 7.2Mb/s. The additional speed boost is nice, but for the most part the speeds between the two are marginal in real-life tests because of network congestion and other situations.

Has AT&T's 4G LTE hit your area yet?

Don't forget iPad 3rd Gen w/Cellular is also LTE ready w/AT&T. Opening post doesn't say that.

Also where on AT&T's site can you get a city list of LTE coverage rather than a map with color coding - for those of us who are color blind. ????

That's not a complete list unfortunately. Anybody else who isn't color blind that can tell me if Philadelphia has LTE with AT&T yet?

Or you can just turn your LTE on and if it doesn't work then I guess you don't have it

That's so stupid on AT&T's part. Even my friends who can see color say that they use dark blue to indicate HSPA+ and "darker blue" to indicate LTE. I think they're trying to 'trick people' by making them think there's more LTE than there is. People get their phones home and only get HSPA speeds and they say - 'just look at our map' - your only in dark blue not double dark blue! Lol!!!! My 4S is a great HSPA phone..

Yeah.. I'm looking forward to A6 and the lighter phone - it looks so sleak.. The taller screen doesn't impress me because they didn't widen it. But my views have already been expressed on that point..

Because it is taller it looks a huge difference and compared to the 4s it's a stubby brick lol

Interesting that they haven't implemented it for the two largest cities Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Unless that's an old list. My friend, who can see color, says that the color-coded map shows Philly as now being LTE. Can anyone confirm that for me on the colormap?

I feel ya, yes it does work awesome !! However, if you have unlimited data service and use your service alot on a daily basis, you (like I already have) will fall in the 10% highest users and both AT&T and Verizon do this,,, they slow down your speed. I worked for AT&T out of my home and I remember when this rule was implemented and customers received text messages letting them know, they would call us livid !! I then called Verizon to see if they were following suit and sure enough, they were. This is done on a month to month basis depending on your usage.

Someone mentioned in a blog that competition is good however, with AT&T and Verizon, it's about who does it first and usually they both end up with
pretty much the same services etc. It's a matter of what suits your life style and price you are willing to pay.

I am hanging on to my unlimited data by a veryyy thin thread. Verizon is doing all they can to get rid of unlimited plans and to think I have been with Verizon since they were Primco smh, where has the loyalty to customers gone?

I upgraded to an iphone 5 and was told that if I upgraded again, I would lose my unlimited service so I decided I will not upgrade. I am pretty satisfied with my iDevices and Apple in my opinion is not the same as they used to be. My only hope now is that the Dev team will release a jailbreak for the iphone 5. I will then be complete lolll Good luck and enjoy that lightning speed ;D
