  • Just Mobile AluBase GIVEAWAY

This morning we're taking a look at Just Mobile's AluBase, a desktop aluminum base stand for your MacBook Pro or Air.

    Company

Just Mobile has been around for 7 years making really cool accessories. They've focused on accessories for iProducts since 2007, and we always love what they come up with. Based out of Taiwan, with a serious attention to detail and design, Just Mobile builds things that feel as if they match the engineering glory of your Apple products. High quality materials match up to beautiful-in-simplicity designs.

    In the Box

The box comes with two separate inserts for the base, to cover a wide variety of MacBook products. Specifically, the MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro Retina, and MacBook Air products will fit in this accessory.

You'll also get the base itself, and a small book explaining this product and highlighting some of their other products.

    Design

As is generally true with Just Mobile products, the AluBase fits perfectly with the Apple aesthetic. It's created from a single piece of aluminum, and brushed to match your MacBook perfectly. The white plastic insert also matches the Apple feel, and holds your laptop vertically on your desktop.

It's a great way to store your laptop when working with an external monitor and keyboard/mouse/trackpad combo, as many folks do when using their MacBook at home.

The AluBase inserts actually screw in, using large flathead screws (you can easily undo them with a coin or key if you don't have a screwdriver on hand), assuring your laptop is secure. In using this for a couple weeks, I noticed it held the laptop firm in the stand, even when knocked a bit. The AluBase is weighty enough to feel substantial, but it's hold is based on the weight of the laptop, and the correct positioning it places the laptop in while held.

Your MacBook becomes a central focal point on the desktop when displayed using the AluBase. Apple's engineering on display - it's borderline art!

    Price / Conclusion

Priced at $49.95 (you can buy it on Just Mobile's website), the AluBase seems just a little expensive. The build quality is great as usual with Just Mobile, and they do provide multiple inserts, but I'd feel more comfortable pricing this about $15 less. That said, it's a beautiful stand for an expensive piece of equipment, and one of the best we've seen. The AluBase does it's job with style.

We're giving the AluBase 4.5 stars, mostly because the price is a bit high. Other than that, it's perfection for what it does!

As is customary for an MMi review, Just Mobile is hooking up a reader with an AluBase stand for free. Use the widget below to grab entries into the raffle, and we'll pick a winner Wednesday morning.

That looks really slick. I like how they have the plastic part to keep things from scratching.

This is cool. Stylish, showcases my device and cleans up my desk too. A must have for me.
According to the we site is has
AluBase™ ships with soft plastic inserts to hold MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro Retina and Macbook Air firmly upright.
and was wondering your thoughts on whether it would hold up and not potentially (with daily use) scratch or mar my MacBook Pro case? I use a white iCarbon case so perhaps a bit thicker then the type of case your using.

^ not 100% sure, but it looks like a XGear EXOSkin. If so, really nice case, and costs about as much as the Aumbase holder.

after watching the videos this seems pretty cool...is the skin sticky or does it remain smooth like the original cover? i don't want it sticking when I put in my briefcase or tight places...
