  • Mobile Final Fantasy Game to be Released Soon by DeNA and Square Enix

DeNA is one of the larger social networks coming out of Asia lately and they’re best known for buying mobile game developer ngmoco. The company announced recently that it’s teamed up with Final Fantasy creators, Square Enix, to publish a new Final Fantasy-branded title on the iOS and Android platform. The name of the game will be Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade and it’s a casual social game centered on flying airships around a fantasy setting, working together with other players to bring down enemies, earn experience and level up characters and their abilities.

The game is said to be released in the App Store “soon,” and come packaged as a free download. Even more interesting than the actual game is the point behind it: DeNA is using the Final Fantasy brand to try and grow its network of connected gamers. This is a really strong push for DeNA in the West and while it’s made several attempts at attracting gamer’s attention before, using the Final Fantasy brand is probably the strongest tactic yet.

As of right now, the company is asking fans to sign up on its website, getting them involved in the big Mobage network, with the incentive of offering a special “Cloud” card in the game for doing so, featuring the popular character from Final Fantasy VII. (If you are interested, hit the source link below). We’re waiting to see if the move will work but DeNA and their competitors have been fishing for new users in the Western market for a while now and the Square Enix brand is the best bait they’ve decided to use so far.

Is a referral code needed or just an email fine?

Very surprised that it will be free. Anything to do with Square Enix usually costs £££££.

"FREE" is a very rare concept these days; the in-app purchases will most likely be shoved in your face as you play and may even be somewhat required in order to progress through the game and remain competitive.

Nah, there's lots of free/open source stuff out there, especially with indie devs.

Yes but SE aren't an indie dev and the large majority of "free" app store games urge the purchase on virtual currencies or spam you with advertisements.
