  • Cook, Obama Discuss Economic Challenges

Over the weekend, Apple CEO Tim Cook was contacted by President Barack Obama as the executive branch picks the brains of the business community. It's all part of the Federal Government's effort to avoid going over the so-called ominous "fiscal cliff."

The White House is calling these talks part of an aggressive "outreach on the need to find a balanced deficit-reduction solution that protects the middle class and continues to move our economy forward."

The CEOs confirmed to have been in contact with POTUS, in addition to Tim Cook, were Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase, Jim McNerney of Boeing, and Craig Jelinek of Costco. As of this writing, it isn't clear exactly what was discussed or what advice Cook and the others may have given the president and his team.

In hindsight, this latest round of talks with corporate giants is nothing new for this Administration and the present Congress. Earlier this year, Tim Cook had a one-on-one with Rep. John Boehner, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. All told, Cook remains on the "short list" of leaders that the White House and Congress routinely turn to for counsel in times of economic uncertainty.

So, our country is ruined due to the Republicans in the Senate being procrastinators......because Obama is black??

      That's really your defense!?!?!

Maybe u should go back to school and stop trying to play the race-card...

Well with all the other bad presidents how do you know if he is bad. Number two " racist" isn't going anywhere. There are states talking about branching off because Obama won the election so with that being said, although my president is black, this nation is still RACIST.

Personally, I think Obama is in a perfect place. Nothing bad can ever be said about him because anybody who says anything negative, automatically gets classed as a "Racist". How about you stop and think that we don't agree with the way he's been running the country. White, black, yellow, whatever, this country has never been in such a bad position since he's taken office. And I love the fact that he even admitted it, saying now that he has another 4 years, we can actually have change. Well what has he been doing for the past 4 years? Get over the racist comment and actually think. Because for every person that might have voted against Obama because he's black, I can guarantee there was another person voting for him just because he's black. They're just as racist in my eyes.

No im confused. Are you american? Look at Facebook or the news stupid. I live in the "so-called" hood and things are finally getting better. Im in Memphis and proud of my community and my president. It is only so much you can do with so many people to worry about. It doesn't matter who you voted for OBAMA won. While doing that he consults some of the top business people to provide a little insight about innovation to make the economy more efficient.

Does anyone remember the NYT article several months ago where Apple said the primary reasons it operated in China were (1) how big and slow the U.S. government is and (2) not enough skilled workers?
      http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/b.../ieconomy.html

of course our president makes comments about Apple bringing iPhone jobs back to the U.S. despite the fact they were never made here...

What Obama was trying and are trying to do is exactly what Ronald Reagan was doing back in the 80s.
The difference of the two is .... The current Potus is NOT white. That's why they have been giving him a hard time for the past 4 years.
Go back to school and learn history again.

PS: Be ready for Clinton on 2016 - She will be number 45! Another Democrat will run this country and continue shaping the Obamacare and tackling the tax loop holes, so those 1% Americans will keep getting taxed properly for their "Capital Gain" income tax.

      CLINTON 2016!
Absolutely, I think while a certain fringe group of lunatics aka "Tea Party" members have taken a sharp right hand turn past the maniacal portion of the Republican party the sleeping giant that is the rest of America has awoken and decided to say no to war, fascism and austerity.

Obviously you were to busy polishing Limbaugh to remember that we were losing 800,000 jobs per month under Bush.

      And now.....

That we're actually adding a few hundred thousand per month it's the God awfulest time EVER.

Your common sense judgement is incomprehensible.

I concur to what (^) the above-mentioned said. Agree.
No one will ever be completely satisfied w/ how the POTUS works, we are always glad to see one leave and a new one come in, it's how we have been trained to think, we as Americans learn from mistakes, but we grow and learn. As far as welfare or Medicare goes, this is the problem, in the urban city is that there isn't enough jobs available as liquor stores, get it? But there is a lot of liquor stores....
Same with the prison system, if you don't keep the prisons full, bam! No more funding, unless you go private, ahem, there isn't any liquor stores out in the rural areas? I'm saying like on every corner though, it's not. Lets figure out who owns the property? Probably a white dude who lives out in the suburbs.and as far as Medicare? Welfare? It's a great alternative for people who only use it temporarily, that's what it was designed for but you have situations where some people who really need to live off of that due to an illness or deformallity and those people are the ones living in poverty. All people of color who are depending on the system have no where else to turn so why do some people complain like blacks Asian and Latinos love to live off the welfare system? They don't. If there were enough good jobs w/o all the white-collar crime and imbezzelment going on, they would be working who can afford 4 person family on a $9(starting) budget? And the gov wants to take a percentage of that too?
Blank---- me running. Recycling will create millions of jobs, companies should invest in some sort of buy back recycling and then somehow be compensated via gov. We need to be more environmental friendly and I really see a future in recycling everything! We use up so much crap and waste so much! If we could clean that up maybe us Americans can be liked a little more by people in other countries we have to start taking care of home first and home isn't the United States, it's within ourselves.

Don't fool yourself...state law does not supersede federal law. Possession is still illegal in America.

You need to check your dates again....the vast bulk of those jobs were lost after Obama took office.
