While many people may despise SpotLight, a new free jailbreak tweak dubbed SLightEnhancerSearch by iOS developer iMokhles might be just the reason you need to start using SpotLight. The tweak supercharges SpotLight, giving it many more useful search capabilities that you could put to great use.
After installing SLightEnhancerSearch, head over to the Settings application and you’ll find a preferences pane where you can adjust its options:
SLightEnhancerSearch will give SpotLight the ability to search many different kinds of apps and search engines. Just to name a few of the popular ones, you can use the tweak to search any of the following:
- Perform a Cydia search for tweaks, themes, and apps
- Perform an App Store search for apps
- Perform an iTunes search for movies, music, TV shows, and more
- Perform an iBooks search for books
- Perform a Google search for a query
- Perform an Amazon search for shopping results
- Perform a YouTube search for videos
- Perform a Facebook or Twitter search for users
- Much more
Turning any of the options off will hide them from SpotLight. Turning them on will show them in SpotLight. After you have configured what you want to show and hide, tap on the “Apply Changes” button and then use a respring method, such as SBSettings.
After you have resprung your iOS device, you can swipe over to SpotLight and start using SLightEnhancerSearch’s new features. For demonstration purposes, we will show you the Cydia and App Store search functions in action. You will be able to try the rest on your own:
When you tap on any of the search functions, the respective application will launch and complete a search query for you. For example, typing “Bad Piggies” in the search bar and tapping on the Search AppStore button will launch the App Store and load up search results for Bad Piggies.
SLightEnhancerSearch integrates so seamlessly into SpotLight that you will enjoy using it. It’s a free tweak, so you can grab it in Cydia and start playing with it right now!
