  • AT&T to Subsidize Price of Apple's iPad

    AT&T is making a bold move in the tablet space, becoming the first U.S. wireless carrier to subsidize the price of the iPad with a two-year contractual agreement. The carrier outlined its plan Friday in an announcement that is closely modeled after the sales structure we've all come to know with regard to the iPhone.

    Beginning today, customers will receive $100 off any tablet purchased at an AT&T company owned store or online with a two-year data plan agreement.

    Here's a quick look at what the tablet data plans look like:

    AT&T Mobile Share: $10 to share between 1 GB and 20GB
    AT&T DataConnect 250MB: $15 for 250MB
    AT&T DataConnect 3GB: $30 for 3GB
    AT&T DataConnect 5GB: $50 for 5GB

    In case you were wondering, I have to be the bearer of bad news here. Even if you're a longtime unlimited data subscriber, you will not be allowed to get around the data plans outlined above.

      It 'looks' like for $90/month (6GB) I get everything (except the $20/month for two lines)! I'd also throw in tethering ($15/month).

      Total=$125/month
      w/ 25% work discount= $93.75/month
      *before taxes, of course

      Am I reading this right or am I confused? Might need to call AT&T...
      Tethering is free with the new plans.

      For you it would be as follows:
      $90 for 6 gig data plan minus 25% discount = $67.50
      2 phones at $35 ea. = $70.00

      Total = 137.50 + tax

      The discount only applies to the data and like i said, tethering is included.

      The 10 gig plan would run you $150 before tax

      I'm confused then...
      What is the "2 phones at $35 ea. = $70.00" charge?

      Each phone on the plan at that level of data is $35.00 ea. no phones are included in the $90 data price.

      I was under the impression that I get a Family Data Plan under my main line ($90 - 6GB) and then add my two other lines ($20) plus the tethering ($15). What is the $35/smartphone charge???

      Again, no phones are included in the $90 data plan. EACH phone will add $35 to your plan.

      Ohhhhh, I see! As of now, I only pay $60/mth for unlimited on both phones. There's no reason to pay $90 and be tiered, then

      How many phones do you have? Your first post says you pay $180 after discount before tax.
