  • iPads Coming to Wal-Mart This Year

The iPad is about to get a lot closer to the masses. Expanding beyond the confines of the Apple Store and select Best Buy outlets, the largest retail giant of them all will soon stock and sell the iPad and its various models. “We anticipate being able to have the iPad later this year,” said Gary Severson, senior VP of entertainment for Wal-Mart’s U.S. stores.

Having Wal-Mart sell the iPad is bound to give an enormous boost and jolt of exposure to the already over-exposed tablet to an entirely new and substantially larger potential consumer base. Of course, the only chief concern that this relationship between Apple and Wal-Mart provokes is whether or not Cupertino can keep up with the supplies needed to stock scores of Wal-Mart outlets across the United States.

Since going on sale six weeks ago, the iPad - which has already sold in excess of one million units - has been plagued by supply issues both domestically and abroad. But as Apple endeavors to expand the presence of its products in the realm of large retail, maintaining substantial quantities of the iPad will likely remain a top priority for Apple in the coming months - especially with industry analysts maintaining that the iPad may sell between four and five million units in total for 2010 alone.

I wonder if they'll lower the price for those who are interested in iPad multitasking (using two iPads at a time)

I like this. Walmart is usually cheaper for this stuff. Their iphones are actually a couple of bucks cheaper too. Plus I know in my town they won't run out because so few people can afford one!

What on earth do you need?

Buyer: I want this 32GB iPad
Salesperson: Here you go. That will be $xxx.xx
      Buyer: Thanks! Bye!

What more do you want? Who wants to have a conversation with the damn employee over their iPad purchase. If anything goes wrong with it you can always still take it to the Apple store under their warranty.

For what it's worth Walmart does have crappy customer service, but I also don't need anyone to lick my @$$ out when I am making a purchase.

They actually frequently knock off about $5 from their Apple products and take a bit of a loss, just so they can get you in the store. The average buyer doesn't walk into a huge store like that and just buy one thing.

Historically Walmart has basically detroyed all competition in its surrounding area. For what it's worth, WalMart already has gone global...

Great, there goes the iPad exclusivity, now everyones going to have one. The same thing happened with the iPhone, once Wal-Mart got it, within' the first week, everyone and their friends moms and aunts had one. But business wise, I guess this is a great move on Apples behalf, there sales are pretty much guaranteed to boost 10x.

Like SB said. It's global already. They are the largest retailer in the world.

Everyone may have one but none will be as cool as our jailbroken ones. A lot of my coworkers have iphones but only two have jailbroken ones. I jailbroke them both. Ours are way cooler than theirs.

      No, more like:

Buyer: Hey can I have that ipad right there?
Salesperson: Sorry honey, not my section, I don't have the key. Also, I get paid by the hour so i don't really feel like calling Betty on the radio. She probably just went to the toliet again for the third time this hour.
buyer: Um, ok. *waits for betty*
      *betty finally comes*
      Buyer: hey, can i purc---
*betty starts helping someone else with some sort of PS3 game.
      *waits*
Buyer: Hey can I purchase your ipad right there?
Betty: Sorry, but that one is for veiwing purposes only. Let me go to the back.
      *waits*
      *ten minutes later*
Betty: Sorry, but were out of ipads, we will get our next shipment.

Hahah, that's why I save five bucks and go to bestbuy...I like the atmosphere at bestbuy better too..

Wal-Mart has the tendency to pull the **** move of going into small towns and pricing their stuff far below actual quality products sold in Mom and Pop stores and running them out of business. All the sell is cheap Chinese garbage and anyone who throws away money on anything other than food or household supplies there should stop financing that horrible company. They used to be a great company, until Sam died. Then his kids ruined the company.

Does having something that no one else does help your self confidence, does it make you feel better than other people that you have an inanimate object they don't? Do you need the ego boost or something? Why does exclusivity matter? If I find an awesome product I make sure I tell every person I know so they buy one and that company gets rewarded for making quality products.
