iPads Coming to Wal-Mart This Year
The iPad is about to get a lot closer to the masses. Expanding beyond the confines of the Apple Store and select Best Buy outlets, the largest retail giant of them all will soon stock and sell the iPad and its various models. “We anticipate being able to have the iPad later this year,” said Gary Severson, senior VP of entertainment for Wal-Mart’s U.S. stores.
Having Wal-Mart sell the iPad is bound to give an enormous boost and jolt of exposure to the already over-exposed tablet to an entirely new and substantially larger potential consumer base. Of course, the only chief concern that this relationship between Apple and Wal-Mart provokes is whether or not Cupertino can keep up with the supplies needed to stock scores of Wal-Mart outlets across the United States.
Since going on sale six weeks ago, the iPad - which has already sold in excess of one million units - has been plagued by supply issues both domestically and abroad. But as Apple endeavors to expand the presence of its products in the realm of large retail, maintaining substantial quantities of the iPad will likely remain a top priority for Apple in the coming months - especially with industry analysts maintaining that the iPad may sell between four and five million units in total for 2010 alone.
