  • Verizon Working with Google on iPad-Killer?

In a startling move, the CEO of Verizon has told the Wall Street Journal that the carrier is working with Google on a tablet device designed to compete with Apple’s iPad. Coming at a time when the rumor about Verizon getting the iPhone has risen once again from the dead, the comments by Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam are somewhat surprising. Doesn't he know that Steve Jobs hates Google with a passion? One writer may have the key to the puzzle: he thinks it's a clever negotiating move by Verizon to get the best terms it can from Apple.

In the Wall Street Journal interview, McAdam said that the carrier was "looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience.” McAdam's reference to Google's "archives" was not explained: Google is a search engine, and if it has "archives," it would be what the rest of us call the internet. He also didn't explain what "working on tablets together" would mean, necessarily, as Verizon makes neither hardware nor software.

The Silicon Valley Insider's Dan Frommer calls BS on this announcement, saying that there's "ZERO reason for Google and Verizon to pre-announce a tablet collaboration, likely several months before anything is available for purchase." With the possibility of "delays, other disappointments, etc.," frommer says there's "only downside" to trumpeting this now, if it's real. While allowing that "it's possible that talks with Apple and Verizon have completely broken down, and that Verizon really is aligning itself with Google for an all-out war," Frommer still says that McAdam "is just playing Google to get Steve Jobs to hand over the iPhone and iPad on favorable terms."

Google, for its part, is pretty much acting like it has no idea what McAdam is talking about. “Anyone can take the Android platform and add code or download it to create a mobile device without restrictions,” the company said in an emailed statement. “We look forward to seeing what contributions are made and how an open platform spurs innovation.”

Ah, EzStar is such a cute little troll getting butt hurt because he's wrong and can't form a coherent argument. He doesn't even know proper English or even the definition of "cite". Sounds like its time to get back to middle school, little nutswinger. Run along.

"As I've told you before," your a loser. Online grammar police! Oh Noez. We should care about how we type online, because apparently it doesn't matter if we get the point clearly across as possible, only which you cannot understand.

"Can't form." What is wrong with you? I just said you can't make a valid argument and you just reword it. Looks like I was right. You are mentally challenged.
If you knew english, you would know that . [Period] goes inside a "" [Quotation Marks]
"Run back to middle school." But you can't due to your crippling illness.

By using poor grammar you are inherently failing at getting your message across as "clearly as possible."

Back on topic though... I, like someone else has already said, am much more interested in seeing what eventually comes out of HP once they integrate WebOS into their tablet.

Should be awesome! I'm hoping it brings some developers out of the woodwork. The OS is extremely polished, it always was just lacking in apps.

If HP finally brings WebOS out that would be a great boost for it. Agreed that it needs to gain some developers for it.

Im sorry you couldn't understand this basic sentence

Since you consider straight up proven facts opinions your a ret*rd.
      Ugh sad.

Success.is.sweet, you are a clown. You don't even make a argument about the current issue, you just go on "learn english." lol, can't blame you though, since you know nothing about electronics. Your not worth my time to get in a debate with.

As for WebOS, I don't see what's the big deal. Already in most tablets, windows isn't very productive to work with. How will WebOS be any different?

There's just a couple pointers. Learn them. Love them. Live them.

As far as how WebOS would be different goes, could it be perhaps that WebOS is linux based and there for has basically nothing to do with Windows whatosever? I would be shocked if the tablet had any relation to what they had designed prior to the Palm acquisition (outside of basic hardware carryover). I've had a significant amount of time using webos phones (much more than with android) and have been very impressed with the OS itself. Like Success said earlier though, there were just not enough developers working with the platform to have enough decent apps that would enhance the user experience. Combine that with, in my opinion, terribly designed phones (as far aesthetics and ergonomics are concerned) and it makes for a sad outcome to an otherwise quite impressive os. Hopefully HP can help bring it back to the forefront.
