If you open up iTunes or the App Store, you’ll see a new banner with the icon of the American Red Cross on it. Apple has teamed up with the Red Cross so you can offer any donations that you may like to send their way to help with those devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
You can access the donation screen from any personal computer or from your iOS devices. For a shortcut, you can click on this link.
You will be given the option to donate in any of the six following cash amounts:
- $5.00
- $10.00
- $25.00
- $50.00
- $100.00
- $200.00
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use any of your iTunes credit to donate to the Red Cross. You will have to use the credit card attached to your iTunes account. 100% of your donation will be going to the Red Cross and Apple won’t be taking any of it. Apple is simply acting as a go-between.
Should you make a donation, you will receive a receipt in your e-mail for the amount you donated as a charge to your credit card just as you would if you had purchased an application from the App Store.
