  • AttachmentSaver Comes to iPad
AttachmentSaver is Youssef Francis' extension to... save attachments... from Mail.app to your jailbroken iDevice. It's been out over a year or so, and we just pushed an update from Francis which adds iPad support. The extension runs $1.99, and works beautifully on iPad as well as iPhone.

Tap a file from Mail.app, and you'll get a popup which asks to save the file or view it. Files are saved to /var/mobile/Library/Attachments. Similar to how Safari Download Manager works from within Safari (which is also being worked on, and should be out in the next couple weeks with iPad support).

Combine this with something like iFile or AirSharing Pro (if you prefer an AppStore app), and your iPad is getting close to an actual computer.

      I have found the problem.

Problem found. You saved a zip file and they work great with attachmentsaver but no word, powerpoint, excel or pdf works. Try it out. I got the zip files and rar to work great.

Works great with iPhone but no dice with the pad. Non-functional.

Great, money wasted. Maybe the reviewer should be more thorough next time.

Even the description in Cydia says, "It unlocks the ability to download "all" attachments of all types,...". False advertising. Email sent to the developer.

Curious that this site states that AttachmentSaver "works beautifully" on iPad, when it really doesn't work at all, except for archive files, apparently.

Yes it does work but with zip files after that with ifile you can extract them. For right now. Its just the ipad version not working with all file types because iphone & Ipod works great. There will be a update soon. I know there will.

If you want to be able to retrieve files that attachmentsaver doesnt lock onto such as pdfs and XMLs etc. there is a very basic way of getting to it.

Whenever you read an email and click on an attachment to view it, what the device does is actually save it temporarily to the local directory : var/mobile/library/mail/attachments

So after finishing reading your email and viewing your PDF or whatever it is you received as an attachment just use Ifile and grab it from this folder.

An important note also is that this saved attachment gets replaced with the next viewed email attachment when loading up a fresh email, so be sure to grab your file and simply transfer it to a different folder of choice before loading up a new emails attachment.

Does this work on iOS4 now if they've enabled iPad support?
