  • Verizon Activated 3.1 Million iPhones in Third Quarter of 2012; 21% iPhone 5

    Verizon has reported their third quarter earnings for 2012 in a press release today. Verizon also revealed the number of smartphones the company has activated. The third quarter of 2012 shows to be a record high of sales for Verizon.

    In the numbers Verizon has released, they share that they have activated 3.1 million iPhone units in the third quarter of 2012. Out of this figure of 3.1 million iPhones, 21% of them were Apple's new iPhone 5.

    Being that Verizon has such excellent 4G LTE coverage across America, it’s surprising that the 21% figure wasn’t much larger considering that 4G LTE is a large selling point for the iPhone 5. Verizon mentions in their press release the current progress of their 4G LTE expansion:

    Neither AT&T nor Sprint have released their figures yet, although MacRumors reports that they are expected to release their figures next week. It should be really interesting to see how they stack up to Verizon, since each company has something to offer for customers that the other companies do not.

      I have mine with Sprint. I have LTE where I love (South Suburbs of Chicago)...its great but its spotty coverage throughout the city. Some areas I can get it but some areas I can't

      IP5 on Sprint Coverage sucks! No LTE and slow 3G, what's the point of having unlimited data when you can't use it or when you can it sucks?!?

      Verizon here, in los angeles speeds are amazing, but for some reason i dont get good service in my house,

      Well of course it sucks in 3G! I had to deal with it for the past two years and now I'm happy that LTE exists for sprint cause look at the speeds I get

      AT&T in San Diego...LTE is AMAZINGG! Never really cared much for LTE, but now that I have it. Love it. The speed is ridiculous, fast/faster than wifi. And my favorite part is looking at my plan on the AT&T app....."Amount of data used" out of 10,238,976 MB...So pretty! Love being a grandfather!

      I don't know how you get LTE when most can't even get phone service at all in that area. Sprint sucks!

      That's a grandfathered data cap? I'm grandfathered in from the first iPhone and my cap is at 3gb; still rockin the 4S

      That is not true. AT&T LTE is in Ohio. Cleveland/Akron area has a very strong coverage and if you look at their LTE map for the rest of Ohio, the coverage seems very good.

      Yes, it's grandfathered data cap. When I'm still with iphone4, the cap limit is unlimited. When upgrade to iphone5, the cap is now 10,238,976 MB

      In Columbus it's nada, zero LTE. If you live in those area then I would believe you but if you rely on the at&t map coverage you are wrong. I've visited Cleveland East area last night and there is no LTE. I'm going back tonight, I'll update you later.

      high doubt you’ve used 10,238,976 MB. That’s 9 terabytes of data which is insanely insane for downloading on a computer let alone a cell phone. That’s like constantly streaming HD movies all day everyday. Even then I don’t think you’d make it. Plus, doesn’t ATT throttle at 5GB or do they not do that anymore. Im still grandfathered in, so I’d like to know.

      Uhhhhh, ya dude....I know.... I am Grandfathered in, therefore still have the unlimited data plan. With the iPhone 5 (I guess you could say with LTE), AT&T changed how it displays your grandfathered unlimited data usage. It used to say "out of Unlimited" when looking at how much data you have used, now it says "out of 10,238,976 MB". I was just saying how cool it is AT&T decided to show a finite number...albeit a impossible one to reach!! Don't know how you got the idea that I was claiming to have used this amount of data....There is only so much porn a man can watch!

      As for the 5gb throttling...I am really not sure. Personally I have never been throttled.. I used to be over 5 gb, but that was before they cracked down on tethering. Haven't gone over 5, would like to know if this is true though, as I have heard the same thing but never experienced it.
