  • Apple to Launch iPad Internationally on May 28th

Apple announced this morning that the iPad will officially be available in international markets beginning May 28th. Three weeks from today, the tablet will roll out in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and Britain. Pre-orders for the tablet, however, will begin this Monday, May 10th.

In the first month of domestic sales, Apple moved better than one million units of the tablet. Given the strong initial interest in the US, it is believed that the international arrival will prove just as momentous, with overall sales estimates for the iPad this year hovering between four and five million units. Adding more interest in the tablet around the world is the fact that its launch had been delayed a full month - from late April to late May - on higher than expected demand issues.

If you're not a resident of any of the above nine markets, don't worry. The iPad may still find you this summer. Apple also announced today that the iPad will debut in Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore in July. Conspicuously absent from the list, of course, are other major nations that one would have expected to see on today's lists. They include South Korea, India and Japan. Even with Israel's past issues with the iPad (issues that have since been addressed and resolved) at no time today did Apple indicate that Israel would be included in the next wave of iPad launches across the globe.

While prices will likely be all over the map for the iPad, Apple is yet to officially announce pricing information. Looks like we'll have to wait for Monday.
