Panasonic is reportedly leaving the TV industry in order to do big business with Apple.
A report from Japan citing credible sources indicates that Panasonic is interested in shifting its focus toward the creation of LCD displays for mobile devices like Apple's iPad.
In addition to cutting the large costs associated with producing substantial screens for televisions, Panasonic is allegedly jockeying for position inside of Apple's lucrative Asian production and supply chain. For now, neither Panasonic or Apple will confirm or deny this speculation out of the far east today. But the serious chatter suggests Panasonic is equally serious about the direction shift.
As MMi reported earlier this week, Apple is rapidly seeking to move away from its reliance on Samsung. And it was Samsung that provided panels for the latest third-generation iPad. If Panasonic gets in the game, Apple could be very receptive to nudging out Samsung even further.
