  • Panasonic May Bolt From TV Market with Eye Toward Apple

Panasonic is reportedly leaving the TV industry in order to do big business with Apple.

A report from Japan citing credible sources indicates that Panasonic is interested in shifting its focus toward the creation of LCD displays for mobile devices like Apple's iPad.

In addition to cutting the large costs associated with producing substantial screens for televisions, Panasonic is allegedly jockeying for position inside of Apple's lucrative Asian production and supply chain. For now, neither Panasonic or Apple will confirm or deny this speculation out of the far east today. But the serious chatter suggests Panasonic is equally serious about the direction shift.

As MMi reported earlier this week, Apple is rapidly seeking to move away from its reliance on Samsung. And it was Samsung that provided panels for the latest third-generation iPad. If Panasonic gets in the game, Apple could be very receptive to nudging out Samsung even further.

Hope they stay in the Blu-Ray player and home theater projector market, since I have both from Panasonic.

Is it a good idea? Why not expand and do both. It seems like they are putting too many eggs into one basket.

Tv manufacturers are losing money on every tv they sell. Getting out is a good idea.

This just shows the true power of apple...they can get a multi billion dollar tv giant to leave the market for their own personal gain. Scary!

Not really. The profit margin for the large screen TV' is just not that high. Why not partner with someone who cash a cash cow audience. It is common knowledge that whenever Apple releases a new product the faithful flock to buy it, even when it does not offer a substantial upgrade from the previous version.

This is just them following Samsung as Samsung also make screens for tv "brands" that have never had their own production lines! And let's face it the market is due a major change and content integration is the most likely road they will go! I would love a tv with Apple TV combined and also other online services! But the makers would need to agree a standard format other wise VHS Betamax situation would happen again
