From Apple’s Mail application in iOS, you can either view all of your E-mail in one unified inbox that contains messages from every single mailbox, or you can view your E-mail messages in their own e-mail mailbox folders such as Hotmail, Yahoo, and Gmail. It’s easy to tell messages apart when you’re in the mailbox folder dedicated to one E-mail account, but when you’re in the unified e-mail inbox, it’s difficult to tell which E-mail account each of the messages are coming from. A new tweak called Organizr by iOS developers Austen Frazier and winocm aims to fix this.
Organizr will color code each E-mail message to tell you which E-mail account each message is from. The color is shown on the top left-hand side of the message cell (out of the way) and each E-mail account gets a different color.
Color coding isn’t new, as Stefan Möllenkamp’s Mail Enhancer Pro can also color code e-mail messages in the unified e-mail inbox. Albeit the concept isn’t new, the price is. Organizr only costs 99¢, while Mail Enhancer Pro is a whopping $4.99. The price is of course justified by the myriad of features that Mail Enhancer Pro comes with, while Organizr is simply a bare bones color-coating tweak.
Currently, Organizr only supports iOS 5; however, the developers are working on iOS 6 compatibility (for those of you with the tethered limera1n jailbreak). The developers are also working on bringing a preferences pane to the tweak to set a specific color for each E-mail account, which is currently automatically assigned since there are no options to configure for Organizr at this point in time.
To tell what color each E-mail account is assigned, you can visit the individual mailboxes to see what color is displayed. Many people have around two or three E-mail accounts on their iOS device, so it’s not going to be difficult to memorize. Hopefully the upcoming update that includes a preferences pane will reduce memorization on the user’s part by allowing users to pick their own colors.
As the tweak sits right now, is it useful? – Absolutely. Anyone that has a cluttered inbox and would like some kind of order should give this tweak a try. It works well and without fail in distinguishing your messages from all of your E-mail accounts in the unified mailbox.
