Lockitron has recently announced a new hardware product that attaches to most deadbolt locks and allows doors to be locked and unlocked via an iPhone app. The new product also seems to take advantage of Bluetooth 4.0 to unlock doors when a registered iPhone 4S or 5 approach the door. The whole concept is pretty nifty and if you find yourself to be a tech-savvy person (which you probably are – why else would you be reading ModMyi?) than this may be something you might like.
The company previously offered a lock which was a full replacement for the entire lock and handle, an idea that made it nearly impossible to use for people who rent. This new iteration of the device attaches to a deadbolt without any permanent changes, giving renters the opportunity to finally use it. Users can unlock their doors via the Lockitron app, an SMS message, or by using Bluetooth 4.0 to unlock it wirelessly, all of which seem to be pretty nifty ways of unlocking doors. The wow-factor that will keep guests surprised and the convenience it can provide to users seems quite attractive. You can watch a video of the product below:
If you are interested in getting your hands on one of these, the company seems to be taking preorders for the device, which is priced at $149. It should be noted that the company won’t be taking any payments until the device is ready. As of right now, Lockitron expects the first 1,000 units to be ready for shipment by March of 2013, so if you decide to pre-order, you’ll still have to wait for quite some time.
