Following this morning’s public apology letter by Tim Cook, stating that users will be able to use third party navigation applications from the App Store as an alternative to Apple’s Maps application while Apple works on making it better, Apple has launched a ‘find maps for your iPhone’ section in the App Store on iOS 6 devices.
The section takes you to a pane where you can scroll through most of the App Store’s most popular mapping and navigation applications. Some are free, but some are quite pricy. Among the list of mapping applications Apple has included are MotionX, Waze, MapQuest, Navigon, Bing, and several more.
If none of the App Store choices meet your standards, you can go into Mobile Safari and add a bookmark icon of Google Maps to your home screen. This will launch Mobile Safari and load up the Google Maps Web application for you as soon as you tap the application icon on your home screen. Regardless of installing a third party navigation alternative, users may still opt to use Apple’s Maps application if they so wish to. Apple has stated time and time again that as more people begin using their Maps application, the better it will get.
