  • iPad ‘Spirit’ Jailbreak Poised For Release

At long last, April 30th is here. And scores of Apple fans will finally get their hands on a new iPad today (or ditch their "ancient" WiFi model for a new iPad 3G). But just as eagerly anticipated as the 3G's arrival itself today is the soon-to-be released iPad "Spirit" jailbreak. And when we say soon-to-be released, we mean really soon. As in... maybe today... or tomorrow. But "soon," nonetheless.

At some point after (don’t ask when!) the iPad 3G is actually in customers’ hands, the first “userland” jailbreak since firmware 1.x will be released by @comex.
The iPhone Dev Team is poised and ready to roll out the jailbreak to coincide with the iPad 3G's launch this evening. Of course, the Spirit jailbreak was announced by MuscleNerd in what seemed to be about ten minutes after the WiWif-only version of the iPad was first introduced on April 3rd. The iPhone Dev Team, however, opted to hold off on releasing the Spirit jalbreak until all models of the iPad reached consumers. As a result, Apple wouldn't have the occasion to beef up the know OS "weakness."

In addition, the jailbreak also works on other beloved Apple gadgets. Of course, as any responsible piece of writing would acknowledge, jailbreaking is not for the faint of heart and should only be undertaken by those who know what they're doing and are well aware of the potential risks and consequences - like having your warranty through Apple rendered null and void.

With the formal unveiling of the iPad 3G today, it's now just a matter of time before untethered jailbreaking descends upon all of our cherished iDevices.

Will this jailbreak software be for Mac only? Also I heard Cydia was already ported to iPad, but will there be any iPad specific packages available right away? Mainly I'm interested in SBSettings and ProSwitcher

Great! Has SBSettings been optimized for the larger screen?

Well do not hold your breath too much. You might have to wait about 2 years for the jailbreak method to come out.

I upgraded to 4.0 firmware, then downgraded back to 3.1.3 in anticipation of the spirit jailbreak. My modem firmware is 05.13.03.....is this going to cause any problems with the jailbreak when its finally released? I dont need to hactivate, just jailbreak.I am on ATT. Thanks in advance for your time.........

SBSettings made a huge mess and its being difficult to uninstall. It breaks cydia and your entire UI, making it revert to iphone resolution icons, iphone keyboard, rotation breaks.

EDIT: In order to force your iPad into restore mode after using SBSettings, just swipe to see SBSettings and press processes. This will reboot your iPad into safe mode (I actually didn't try just clicking on Safemode within SBsettings, i clicked processes before)

can someone enlighten me please. Is there any reason I should do this (spirit) on my 3gs 3.1.2? blackrained and have not had to restore for quite some time now and avoided the 3.1.3 update. Is this so you can let it update to 3.1.3 then use the spirit app. Or is this just mainly for people who could not do an untthered jb before?

oh, and I havent even had itunes installed since 3.1.3 firmware came out (i know paranoid) Should I install a specific version of itunes and can u remind me of the steps to make it so it doesnt automatically update. Sorry im so high maintenance

Appreciated. That did the trick (though I'm at a loss for why). Now to find any applications that work as expected :]
