  • Apple's iPhone 5 Deemed "The Fastest Smartphone in the Land"

A recently released report by PC Mag put the iPhone 5 against previous iPhone models, then against top Android models including Samsung’s Galaxy SIII released in June and Google’s Motorola Droid RAZR M released just last week. Guess what? Apple’s iPhone 5 was declared the world’s fastest smartphone.

When compared to previous years’ iPhone models, the iPhone 5 obviously came out ahead. If that wasn’t enough, it should be noted that it often came out ahead by a factor of two. In browser tests, it scored nearly twice as fast as the iPhone 4S in Browsermark, where it was more than three times as fast as the iPhone 4, even with all phones upgraded to iOS 6 (which boasts improved browser speeds for all). The graphic tests resulted in the iPhone 5 scoring 2.2 times as high as the iPhone 4S and more than 8 times as fast as the iPhone 4. In general, PC Mag said the iPhone 5 was overall 2.5 times as fast as the iPhone 4S and over 4.2 times as fast as the iPhone 4.

When Apple’s new iPhone was pitted against Android phones, PC Mag noted that last year’s iPhone 4S running iOS 6 on its dual core, 800MHz A5, “is about on par with leading Android 4.0 phones like the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Motorola Droid RAZR M, both of which are using the 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processors,” adding that “obviously, the difference is that Safari is a faster browser than the Android browser.” PC Mag continued by saying that the new iPhone 5 “takes things to the next level,” stating that “its Browsermark score is 80% higher, and it shows much quicker Sunspider times.”

The iPhone 5 won overall by a narrower margin, but as noted, “the ‘memory’ and ‘stream’ scores, both of which test loading data in and out of RAM, come out much better on the Apple device.” In a graphics-specific processing test, the iPhone 5 beat the S III and RAZR M by more than a factor of three. The report concluded that “based on these benchmarks, the iPhone 5 lives up to the promise of being twice as fast as the iPhone 4S. I’s also, for now, the fastest handheld computer sold in the U.S.”

You know the Nintendo Wii is kicking the *** of both Sony and ms. yet it is not the best system, and when the iPhone 4s came out everyone on here was making excuses why it was still the best phone even though it wasn't as powerful or fast as others. now someone post a story based on test that it's the most powerful smartphone and you apple ibots point to that as the holy grail as to why your phone is better? People hate apple fans for this reason. You start bashing from the first post, It's like being in a day care, people post negative and harsh comment towards another person cause their scared, of what? another phone? someone posted about the drop test, really?
It didn't seem to matter when the iPhone 4 and 4s did horrible in those before. and before you call me a fandroid i have both and make apps for both and get paid for both. and hope the iPhone sell billions. The more they sell the bigger the checks. just this blatant hate for one or the other is just childish. A phone doesn't sell 20 million cause it's crap! and just to end this post I own a iPhone 5 and it's nice. my phone of choice? My droid razr maxx. the iPhone can't touch my battery life. That may change in the coming weeks as i play with the iPhone more. but after just about 30 hours of having owned my ip5, the battery went almost completely dead after 14 hrs, moderate usage. Battery doesn't matter to all, but to me it does. In the end we all win when these phones do good.

The s3 will probably still be my phone of choice for the time being because of the amount of things you can do straight from the get go, widgets, data while in call and other things. Right now the couple millisecond browser speed isnt to enticing.

Now bring on the jailbreak and we'll talk

One more side note, all of my phones have have otterbox defender cases and none of them feel cheap in the slightess.
      Damn the jailbreak.

I'll just say this, as a previous iPhone owner of every iPhone, and now including the 5 i transplanted to Android in the middle there, with the S2 and S3. And I'll just say this, besides the OS being exactly the same in every rendition of the iPhone, there are things that drive me crazy. First off, the maps. Google had years and years of mapping ahead of what they have now. The turn by turn is nice, I have to admit, but most the **** on the maps is missing. Landmarks, national forests, buildings, etc.. etc.. WTF, really? Could you imagine being in downtown New York on Apple's current maps? They bit the bullet here and in an effort of getting rid of google, they screwed up.

YouTube, this is a joke. Absolute joke. How many times am I going to get "Must be on wifi"? Are you kidding me? This was a gutless move. It's a clown move, and I'll never y

The SMS on phone calls, Android has had for years. Notification center, still not as good as Androids. Speed, well, I'll be honest, I hated touchwiz, and I would never own an Android device and try to use it. It was trash, so I can't speak much about touchwiz. But AOSP Jelly Bean is every bit as smooth, games, general use, and I get higher LTE speeds with my Galaxy as well. I haven't tested that extensively so don't bite my head off for it, but with speed test, my numbers were higher about 90% of the time with the Galaxy side by side.

Google Now vs Siri, well, Siri I think is a better interface and much more interactive, but Google Now does some pretty amazing things. The voice recognition is WAY better with Google Now, it's seldom ever misses. And secondly, the "pages" and how it figures out when you leave work everyday, and gives you sports info, and travel into, and even navigates to my house everyday at 3:45pm with traffic info and what route to take, it's quite an amazing tool. But you don't see it on Touchwiz, you don't see it on MotoBlur or in Sense - again, you have to run AOSP to see how good it really is.

All in all, the iPhone 5 is exactly what everyone thought it would be. It's not revolutionary, it's not ground breaking or even innovative. It's an iPhone, and it's exactly what people expected, and works exactly as it should. It's an amazing tool, it really is, and it's a gorgeous device. I am going to use mine for a while and I'm sure I'll end up back with Android, I just like it better. It's YOUR device, and I enjoy it much more that way. Every single iPhone interface is exactly the same, and that's how they make it as good as it is. But it's not for everyone - I don't have many complaints about the iPhone, I like it, I like the simplicity, but for me, that's the downfall of it as well.

Oh no dont get me wrongi develop for iphone and not android only because has a much more efficient app store as of right now. My sgs 3 runs jellybean, the only reason i put it to stock was for a fair fight. Jellybean bliws ios out of the water in my opinion and samsung and moto will all start to sway away from their own custom launchers in the fututer because it will make the android os more universal. They will still have their own seperate preloaded apps but unlike ios you can disable those from running or even showing up on your phone.

I have 7 different phones because im a bit of a nerd and ill have to say the iphone 5 is nice but nothing revolutionary in the slightest.

ohhhhh, that's right...i forgot apple that actually pays attention to making its hardware work at its full potential and they make that hardware work smarter.

"but it just looks like a stretched iphone 4/4s"

ohhhh, that's right. Apple took the time to determine that typing on-the-go w/ one hand is still feasible with their new screen dimension. After all, this is still a phone...not a tablet.

"but i don't mind typing w/ two hands..."

good luck avoiding crashing into people or having them crash into you while you have to stop in the middle of a sidewalk to type on your 5" screen!

I like how almost every post has to do with android fanboy justification here. Yet I am seeing no android fanboy justification. It's just too funny how insecure fanboys on either end of the spectrum are. It's not enough for you people to be happy with your devices. You have to rub it in everyone's face. Stay classy.

Read the source of the post and at the end read twice. Also of it was just for safari it would have said fastest browser ever. READ

[QUOTE=Painkiller006;6684771]You do realize the drop test are completely irrelevant due to the fact that the phones don't fall in the exact same angle.

I have four drop test with the s3 and iPhone 5. Every time the screen has cracked before and more badly on the s3. Also the plastic and battery flys out sometimes and that's embarrassing
