  • Apple's iPhone 5 Deemed "The Fastest Smartphone in the Land"

A recently released report by PC Mag put the iPhone 5 against previous iPhone models, then against top Android models including Samsung’s Galaxy SIII released in June and Google’s Motorola Droid RAZR M released just last week. Guess what? Apple’s iPhone 5 was declared the world’s fastest smartphone.

When compared to previous years’ iPhone models, the iPhone 5 obviously came out ahead. If that wasn’t enough, it should be noted that it often came out ahead by a factor of two. In browser tests, it scored nearly twice as fast as the iPhone 4S in Browsermark, where it was more than three times as fast as the iPhone 4, even with all phones upgraded to iOS 6 (which boasts improved browser speeds for all). The graphic tests resulted in the iPhone 5 scoring 2.2 times as high as the iPhone 4S and more than 8 times as fast as the iPhone 4. In general, PC Mag said the iPhone 5 was overall 2.5 times as fast as the iPhone 4S and over 4.2 times as fast as the iPhone 4.

When Apple’s new iPhone was pitted against Android phones, PC Mag noted that last year’s iPhone 4S running iOS 6 on its dual core, 800MHz A5, “is about on par with leading Android 4.0 phones like the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Motorola Droid RAZR M, both of which are using the 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processors,” adding that “obviously, the difference is that Safari is a faster browser than the Android browser.” PC Mag continued by saying that the new iPhone 5 “takes things to the next level,” stating that “its Browsermark score is 80% higher, and it shows much quicker Sunspider times.”

The iPhone 5 won overall by a narrower margin, but as noted, “the ‘memory’ and ‘stream’ scores, both of which test loading data in and out of RAM, come out much better on the Apple device.” In a graphics-specific processing test, the iPhone 5 beat the S III and RAZR M by more than a factor of three. The report concluded that “based on these benchmarks, the iPhone 5 lives up to the promise of being twice as fast as the iPhone 4S. I’s also, for now, the fastest handheld computer sold in the U.S.”

Wow so many fanboys, when will people learn that while a phone may be the best them, its not the best for everyone. While the iphone 5 is the fastest phone and I would really like to have one, I personally prefer my galaxy nexus because it does so many things that the iphone 5 just flat out cannot do and is not that much faster, and to me features are more important than a little more speed. Anyone who calls the galaxy nexus, or android for that matter, a ripoff of the iphone has no idea what they are talking about. I know people will think I am an android fanboy because I use a galaxy nexus, but this is far from the truth. I have an iPad because apple is so far ahead of any other tablet maker and there are many things that I prefer about ios over android. In fact, as soon as my contract is up I am going to leave android, probably for a windows 8 phone to make an educated decision on which is my personal favorite. But in the end its just a phone and people have personal preferences so there is no one phone for everyone.

I can actually get behind quite a bit of this. The reason that Apple Fanboys are so rabid and that, subsequently the Android fanboys are the same, is that people feel the need to put another device/person/OS down and that in turn, causes the other to defend themselves. Now it's out of control and it's just sort of humorous.

I'm absolutely guilty of making my own brother feel stupid when he goes on about his Samsung G3 or S3 or whatever the newest one is (I honestly can't recall as I'm writing this) but I find such pleasure it in because he irritates me so I irritate him; same rules go for forums. Ultimately, each person will find the device for them and regardless of what others say, only they have to be happy with it. Well posted though and very mature of you to give such a candid forum entry; honestly.

This is a fair question. I would have though all the new iDevices would release the 21st.

Most people on here know that. Calling them silly because of your ignorance of this is sad.

haha! That is awesome! So iPhone 5 has less cores(still dual) while the S3 has quad core(double) and is still slower?? Wow! Guess you will have to over clock it and buy that crazy big extra battery that droid sells for those that over clock, as it sucks up your battery. When will they learn that balance is key. Too much of a good thing can turn out to be a bad thing..just saying :]

I wonder if both iPhone and android fanboys call other strangers cars cheap and look down on them because of their different choice of vehicles??

They compared the Dual Core version of the SIII (1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4), not the Quad Core International version.

FYI, they compared the Dual Core US version, not the Quad Core International version of the SIII. My Galaxy Nexus is over clock and don't need an extended battery..just saying :]

You want a comment... The article specifically referred to Safari being a faster browser than Androids CURRENT browser. From my understanding the upcoming RAZRs are going to ship with Chrome. Would be very interested in seeing those two compared to each other (Chrome on Android an Safari on IOS).
