GIVEAWAY - Unlocking the iPhone 5

A few million people got an iPhone 5 this morning.

We're betting some of you are looking to unlock it - whether for resale value down the road, or to use a foreign SIM in the iPhone already (good luck though - your carrier will need a compatible nano-SIM).

There's an abundance of sites offering unlocks. Some are legit, some are scams. We have used various ones in the past, and thought we'd share a couple we recommend now since iPhone 5 support has just been added (note - these services unlock other iPhones as well - 3G, 3G[S], 4, 4S).

Neither of these services require a jailbreak, and both are permanent unlocks (you can update your firmware normally, etc, and your device will still be unlocked).

iUnloc.kr

iUnloc.kr is a newer service, but from guys who've been developing for iPhone for a while now. This service is wholly automated, with an emailed response when you're unlocked. Plus their site is pretty.

They offer a variety of service speeds and prices:

2-5 hour turnaround. on sale for $45.
1 hour turnaround - $55.
24 hour turnaround - $25.

iUnloc.kr will also be releasing a Cydia app here in the next few days, which you can grab through the ModMyi repo. We'll update here when that's available.

NegriElectronics.com

NegriElectronics has been around a long while, and has a reputation of quick customer service and quality products. They sell unlocked phones as a specialty, and their iPhone unlock is quick and effective. You also receive an email when your device is unlocked.

The iPhone unlock service from NegriElectronics runs $120, but is on sale for $18.50. It is "instant," which is labeled as a 2-3 hour turnaround.

You're in great hands with either of the above services - ModMyi.com recommends them (we should mention - we don't receive anything in exchange for these reviews, although we did test an unlock to verify it works with each service).

I purchased the 25 dollar - 24 hour unlocker from iunloc.kr and have received nothing. Its been 34 hours since my purchase, when i check the status of my order i get nothing basically seems like i got swindled. I emailed them through the website and their "support" and no answer. I will keep everybody posted but i would definetly wait before buying to see what happens with me... I have a bad feeling im out 24$

Would love this. I'm in Japan and these people are all up for monopolization when it comes to mobile phone services. I've got 2 phones i need to unlock and this would reasure me to use either of the websites to unlock my other phone and recommend them to my friends too.

In fact, weren't you one of the people that used this company? Odd.

Notice "I'm" the one plugging them here first, Blkcadi! ;-) Cause I did have success - thanks to your introduction of them to many of us. But I will remind you again. Just because something 'works' doesn't mean the method they use is 'legit'. Jes' sayin'. Simon himself raised the concern of their method of doing the unlocks. I don't want to go down this path again as it was the cause of two closed threads. The only thing people should know is that not every unlock service is created equal. Nuff said.

]BTW...Verizon iPhone 5s are ALL shipping UNLOCKED. Any GSM nano SIM will work in them. There is a drawback though. LTE will not work on the phone in the US--only 3G

Correct different frequency bands depending on the device model

Just did the for my iPhone 5 and received an email my iPhone was unlocked and gave these instructions:

1. Plug iPhone into iTunes via USB cable.
2. Backup and Restore iPhone.
3. Insert foreign sim card into phone.
4. Unplug and replug into iTunes for detection.

How am I going to get a foreign sim???
Can it be AT&T or does it have to be T-Mobile???

^Anything other then your official carriers sim. Doesn't even have to be an active sim card. Any prepaid will work also.
I did my new iPhone 5 today also, used unlock fusion again. Worked like a champ.

Used CutYourSIM before on the iPhone4, wasn't sure if there were other legit unlocking sources. Thanks for the tip, ModMyI. Winning this just might tip me over to getting the iPhone 5.
