Chitika: iOS 6 Adoption Rate Already Breaking 15%
A recent analysis by Chitika Insights claims Apple’s new iOS 6 was installed on over 15% of compatible device in the mobile operating system’s first 24-hours of availability. The Ad network Chitika Insights, sampled millions of ad impressions from September 19 to September 20, comparing the growth rate of iOS 6 to the total iOS device web usage. After seeing a peak of over 16% earlier, the adoption of the new iOS 6 has been hovering at roughly 15% despite the high number of complaints regarding features such as the Maps app.
The graph illustrates the influx in users who updated to iOS 6 right around the time it was released to the public. Before the climb, the number of devices running iOS 6 was well below 1% with the number mainly consisting of developers using a pre-release version of the mobile operating system.
Apple’s previous mobile OS, iOS 5, took five days to breach 20% adoption. If the adoption rate of iOS 6 continues at the pace it’s going now, it is on track to outperform its predecessor. Chitika also points out that a similar study focused on the adoption rate of Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which is only compatible with certain handsets, only saw a 1.5% adoption rate in its first two months of availability.
