  • Thief Rips Off Man's iPad, Finger

A man in Denver lost most of his finger, and his iPad, as a thief snatched the device just as he was leaving the mall. The skin was torn off his finger and most of it had to be amputated because the robber ripped the bag out of his grasp with such force. Denver police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect.

According to a Denver Police Department report, Bill Jordan, 59, had just purchased the iPad and was entering the parking garage of the Cherry Creek shopping mall with the bag "wrapped around his left hand and he was holding on tight," as he told police. The thief pulled so hard on the plastic bag that it ripped the skin completely off Jordan's left pinky down to the bone. As the paramedics who responded to the incident described it, the pinky was "degloved - the skin was peeled off." Jordan told police on the scene that he wouldn't be able to fill out a crime report right away, because he's left-handed. Doctors later amputated three-quarters of Jordan's finger.

The victim hopes his tragedy will serve as a warning to other shoppers. "If there is any message in this," he said, it's that "it can happen anywhere at any time. This happened in broad daylight." The mall is in an affluent area, not known for violent crime. "You have to be alert at all times," Jordan warns, "especially when you're shopping for expensive items."

Surveillance video shows an African-American man, about the age of 25 with a medium build and clean-shaven face, tearing the bag out of Jordan's hand as he went into the parking garage. In the video, he was wearing sunglasses, dark blue pants, and a long sleeved dark blue shirt, and was carrying messenger or satchel bag with a white strap. Anyone with information is asked to call Denver Police Crime Stoppers at 720 913-STOP (7867). A $2,000 reward is offered for information leading to the apprehension of the suspect.

I feel bad for the African-American community; it's events like these that confirm certain stereotypes.

The mall where this happened (I live close to it) is in a very affluent community, complete with their own police force in and around the mall. It is terrible that this happened and no one jumped the thieves. It does not surprise me that no one was able to stop the thieves in the parking garage, though - it is very dark, not patrolled very often and has plenty of access for a thief to take off quick.

If the guy that got his finger by the ***** hole is reading this.

Ask your dr or do so searching on pixie dust. It's some experimental material mad from pig bladder that supposedly can help the body regenerate limbs.

If i recall, and artile was written about it and it was being tried on a soldiewr that got his finger blown off.

Anyway. That totally sucks. Hope they catch that guy.

I live just down the block from this Mall also. Usually the indoor parking lot is pretty busy, people coming in and out. First time I have heard of something like this going on there. Its a pretty hi class environment. Im sure glad I have my Taser app on my iPhone In other places around Denver though, muggings seem to be up at tad because of the economy.

Its on all the local news now with his picture and a reward for information. Looks like there were 2 people involved. Then of course they followed that up with the report of the new iPhone prototype video.
Shouldn't be to long till someone turns him in and his buddy for the reward. I for one will be keeping a eye out for him. Use the reward for a new 4G

Apple need to rethink the design of their bag! A break away handle when too much force exerted.

That is a pretty ridiculous thing to say IMO. Plenty of Caucasians steal as well every day. Sure a black guy will steal something every once in a while. Why must we feel bad for the entire race?

      What a piece of ****...

I'd be willing to donate a couple bullets if I could find the guy.

Next time you make a high $ purchase, bring a couple friends. 1 guy will think twice against 3 guys, because his odds of getting knocked the **** out goes way up

This is what happens when you overcharge for things heh. That really does suck though the manager of the apple store should give him a free ipad but I doubt that happened.

It doesnt confirm, it just promotes.

I think of it the same way Chris Rock does. Theres two sides: Black people, and n*&%@s (I like to call them ninjas). The thoughts & actions of ninjas have absolutely nothing to do with the thoughts and actions of Black people.
