    Apple, mere hours before the iPhone 5’s release, has finally released pricing for unlocked versions of the company’s new phone.

    The pricing structure is similar with a significant premium being placed on the non-subsidized unlocked phones. The price of an iPhone 5 off-contract will run consumers $649 for 16GB models, $749 for 32GB models, and $849 for 64GB models.

    Apple still hasn’t announced when the unlocked phones will actually be available for purchase, although the website does imply that consumers should buy from Apple online or in-store. However, the Verge has confirmed unlocked units will not be available on launch day.

    Pre-orders being at 12 p.m. PST tonight for those willing to sign a two-year contract with their preferred money pit. Everyone else (T-Mobile subscribers) will have to wait. The Apple Store is currently down, and will likely be up and running when the time for pre-orders rolls around.

      So by when will the unlocked iPhone 5 will be available? I don't want to stick to a 2 year contract anymore.

      So im kind of confused. I already am on a contract with verizon with the iPhone 4s right...but i dont have an upgrade available. So that would mean I have to buy the $750 version (cause i want 32gig). Unless im reading this post wrong, I cant buy my phone then?? Idk ive never not had an upgrade before so im just really confused. I want my phone and im willing to pay the extra pricetag...sooo can someone explain it to me>?

      My only question is will the unlocked iPhone 5 work on t-mobile 4G network? I'm waiting to find out if not I'll just go back to AT&T.

      The fact that you are still in a contract means you are not eligible for an 32gb $300 iPhone 5, BUT! you CAN get an iPhone 5 32gb for $750 with no contract which is also unlocked whenever it is released. Also, the fact that you are willing to pay the retail price means you can sell your iPhone 4s and whatever you get from it you can put it towards the iPhone 5

      As far as I understand it, if you have a CDMA carrier then these unlocked phones (if you plan to use another carrier in the near future or don't want to extend your contract) is what you want. If you are on AT&T you can get an off contract phone (for $200 more than the on contract price) through either Apple (AT&T version) or AT&T on September 14 and then get it factory unlocked through certain channels for fairly cheap (bypassing AT&T if you are still on contract).

      EDIT:

      Unlocked = Not tied to any carrier

      If you buy through AT&T/Sprint/Verizon those phones will only work on those carriers. If you get the phone through Apple you have to select one of those carriers (meaning they are tied to them and will only work on that carrier). When Apple sell the unlocked phones you can use them on any carrier you choose.

      I am aware that there is a factory (permanent) unlock for the GSM version of iPhone (for GSM carriers). I have not seen one for CDMA carriers so I am not sure if one is available unless you go directly through the carrier to try and get an unlock.

      I want the unlocked iPhone, and since I can't wait I think that I have to have another 2 year contract; yet the good news is that I have the Grandfather unlimited data. I don't know if I buy the unlocked iPhone that I will be able to retain that plan.

      hmmm i say that apple will start selling them in a month

      btw keep in mind tmobile users even though you buy the phone unlock, you will still have to wait till tmobile have new sim cards for them. hopefully they will release them soon though

      so for now your iphone 5 will just be a really expensive ipod touch lol

      I just preordered my 64GB Black Verizon variant iPhone 5 online for full retail $903.67. Will be delivered on the 21st. Keeping my unlimited data,

      EDIT: This was on Verizon's website. Apple store would not let me continue the purchase for full retail.

      Seems cheaper to buy the iPhone of your choice and then pay the ETF. At least with ATT, they'll unlock once you've fulfilled your contract obligation.

      There is a difference between factory unlocked and off-contract. Have you guys confirmed that the unlocked iPhone 5 will work with either Sprint or Verizon (CDMA carriers)? In the past, factory unlocked iPhones have been incompatible with CDMA networks. From Apple's Website:

      The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a contract commitment. You can activate and use it on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T in the United States. The unlocked iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S will not work with CDMA-based carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.
      Granted, this hasn't been updated yet but I haven't seen any info that states the unlocked iPhone will now support these networks.

      depends on how fast they are refarming your area... i live in the greater nyc area and some parts are getting the 3g signal on my regular 4 already tho a small area... but from all rumors n such... should be by years end everything should be done.

      I really dont get why apple us is $50 cheaper then Canada.. this makes no logical sense. Has apple been watching the dollar, And another thing why cant i buy a MBP in USA and get it serviced in Canada.. thats total bull!! Canadian iphone 5 $699*1.13= $789.87 for the cheapst iphone in canada... Like whats new yorks tax .04? soo Lets go $649*1.04= $674.96. Now looking at both those prices even i smash im iphone the first day i get it wil still be cheaper to drive down to the usa pick up unlocked iphone n take my chances.. not like i ever bought applecare for my ipad or iphone cuz they wouldnt cover anything, it would end up being my fault. But w/e unless apple WOWs me with their next product i may start looking else were.. waited 2 years for the iphone 4ss why the 4ss? cuz its a bigger screen thats why, with LTE which most other phone already have! way to hit the band wagon running fast Apple!

      the way I ordered my iPhone 5 factory unlocked was:
      I went to the sight and changed county at the bottom of the page to Canada because in Canada they only sell Factory Unlocked iPhones you can also get factory unlocked in the UK ( England ) or Germany and I'm sure there are more but Canada was good for me. Also for the guy that wants a 32GB iPhone 5 I think that's kind of stupid because for only $100 more he can double the memory to 64GB and 32GB for $100 is cheap wouldn't you say?

      Absolutely not!

      I have 32GB Corsair (a major name brand) USB3.0 thumb drives that only cost me $15 almost 1 year ago!

      One of the main reasons Apple has always had fixed non-expandable storage was so they could gouge you on the price. If you own an Apple iDevice, you really should know this.
