Apple Confirms The Death of iPhone 3GS
The iPhone 3GS is officially being discontinued by Apple.
One day removed from the company's introduction of the 6th generation iPhone (the iPhone 5), Apple confirmed to the folks at All Things D today that the iPhone 3GS is being retired.
"Launched in June of 2009," says John Paczkowski, "Apple’s iPhone 3GS has had a good long run. But with the iPhone 5 set to arrive in a little over a week, that run has come to an end."
Per Apple's new plans, the iPhone 4 will become Apple’s new entry-level offering. The iPhone 4, as it turns out, has already replaced the iPhone 3GS in the Apple Store as the new "entry-level" iPhone.
Preorders for the new iPhone 5 will begin tomorrow. The new devices will go out for delivery on September 21st in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
