  • [How To] Stitch Your SHSH Blobs to a Firmware File

With iOS 6 on the horizon, itís important that you keep a restorable firmware for iOS 5.1.1 so that you can restore to it through iTunes even when Apple stops signing iOS 5.1.1. This will guarantee you an untethered jailbreak as we patiently wait for iOS hackers to work their magic on iOS 6 once it is released to the public.

This guide is intended for moderate level jailbreakers and will show you how to stitch your SHSH blobs to your current firmware.

To complete this guide, you will need:
    1. redsn0w 0.9.14b2
    2. Your iOS 5.1.1 firmware file

Step 1: To begin, plug your jailbroken iOS device into your computer, launch redsn0w, and click on the Extras button as indicated below:

Step 2: The next thing you are going to want to do is click on the SHSH blobs button:

Step 3: Now you will want to click on the Stitch button:

Step 4: Once you get to the menu below, enter DFU mode on your device by holding down the home and sleep buttons for ten seconds, then release the sleep button while continuing to hold the home button until redsn0w says you're in DFU mode. Now you can click on the IPSW button and find your device's firmware file on your computer. After you finish with that and your device is in DFU mode, click on the Cydia button to retrieve your SHSH blobs from Cydia:

Step 5: After you click the Cydia button, you will be forced to wait a few minutes as your blobs are saved and then stitched into the firmware file you selected. As shown below, redsn0w will tell you when it's finished and also tell you the directory where your stitched firmware file is saved at:

Step 6: Go to the directory it showed you and you will find a firmware file with a strange numeric name. This is the file you will use for restoring your iOS device from now on (Pro-tip: you may rename this file anything that makes it easier to remember):

To use this file, you will need to put your iOS device into pwned DFU mode (through redsn0w) and then select your stitched file from iTunes when restoring by holding down the Option key and clicking restore (Mac) or holding down the Alt. key and clicking restore (Windows). Even if Apple is no longer signing iOS 5.1.1, the restore will work because your SHSH blobs and APTicket are both stitched into this firmware file.

It is recommended that you perform this stitching feature with every one of your iOS devices that you like to have jailbroken.

Worked fine for me, iPhone 4S 5.1.1

However I had to search google to find out how to get OUT of DFU mode~ this should be listed as the last step in this tutorial

it SEEMS that it worked on my 4s and it only took 1 try and about a minute. If it didn't really work then I don't really care since I wouldn't update to 6 unless if that were jailbroken or if 6 is so much better than 5.1.1 that I don't care about the jailbreak at which point why do I care about the stitching and jailbroken 5.1.1.

btw to get out of dfu mode simply hold home and power buttons together for a few seconds and it will restart normally.

Thanks for this timely article! I knew I'd need to do this before iOS6 dropped, but I hadn't taken the time to learn how since APtickets came into being.

I use an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 (also a 3GS with the same).
I used iFaith to create a custom IPSW but restoring on the 3GS didn't work. Haven't tried on the iPhone 4.
Anyway, my question is, will this process create a restorable IPSW for my iPhone 4 and/or 3GS on iOS 5.0.1, or do I NEED iOS 5.1.1?

I follow the guide but I can't get this working on my Iphone 4S with 5.1.1 . But I can't get this working because I think it's impossible to with Iphone 4S since this device doesn't support Pwned DFU yet.
If someone, who has a solution, can help me I would really appreciate it

I'm with you on the restore problem with 4s. I was able to create the 5.1.1 firmware for my 4s with no issues but restoring it is a different issue all together. Pwned DFU doesn't work on 4s per redsn0w. I have tried regular dfu with no luck and I tried restore in itunes as well as redsn0w=nogo. Any help or solutions to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Tried that the restore goes all the way till the end of restore where confirming with apple then the error pops but I got a fix and it worked.

After the error I put the phone into DFU mode and then jailbroke with redsnow and the phone started up.

      Hope this helps others.

With the power cord plugged into the computer I Pressed and held the sleep wake button for five seconds then press the home button ( sleep and home buttons at same time) till I heard the computer make noise and then I let go of the sleep wake and held onto the home button for a long time till I heard the computer make a noise again and iTunes started up and I was in DFU mode I believe. Then ran redsnow.

But that doesnt restore it with stitched shsh blobs firmware, right? or after you have put it to dfu, you did the method from here, and jailbroke?

After stitching the firmware and restoring in iTunes I got the -1 error then I dfu'ed it and ran redsnow as Norman using the normal firmware not the stitched one.

This would be great IF IT WORKED.
I did this to all my iDevices. iPhone 4, iPad1 and iPad3.

The other day I upgraded my iPhone 4 to IOS6. Didn't like it so I restored back to 5.1.1.
I had to use the original 5.1.1 as this patched version kept failing when I tried.

Today I upgraded my iPad 3. I found out it cant be jailbroken so I tried to downgrade to 5.1.1.
FAIL. Again this patched file DOESN'T WORK.

So, yea, you can add SHSH to the files but it WONT WORK.

Even when the iPhone 4 was doengraded to 5.1.1 I tried the patched file again and it still errors and fails.

      TOTALLY USELESS and DOESN'T WORK.

Stitching SHSH to firmware only works on A4 idevices.

Im not sure if when is the last time this method worked, is it before the release of the ios 6? my iDevice is iphone 4, an A4 device, right? stitching shsh blob worked, but using it for restore, dont. i tried it twice.

Regarding about "cant exit recovery mode", i tried using Redsnow -> Extras -> Recovery Fix. And i tried to re-jailbroke with Redsnow also.

After escaping recovery mode, it seems like im restored, but i dont trust it since i got an error -1, and i know its not completed.

So, i still want to restore it to 5.1.1 properly, if theres only a way to do it.

when was that? Have you successfully restored by using the original ios 5.1.1? Coz i can't, i think, since the last weekend, or should i say, from the release of ios 6 or from the time i upgraded itunes. From then, all FAILS.
