  • Apple Gives iPod nano a Big Colorful Makeover

Apple today unveiled a totally redesigned iPod nano that delivers a 2.5-inch multi-touch display and, as the image depicts, a quaint little home button reminiscent of its big brother iDevices. Nonetheless, it's the most sophisticated iPod nano ever devised.

"It's really beautiful, and of course that bigger screen is great for experiencing your music even better," says Apple's Greg Joswiak, noting that the refreshed gadget will come in seven colors: aluminum, black, purple, green, blue, yellow and red.

The new and improved nano delivers a whopping 30 hours of music playback. You can also check out photos and videos. And if that's not enough, there's even an FM tuner with DVR functionalities like pausing and rewinding.

Joswiak similarly praised the nano's integrated Bluetooth and the new "Lightning" connector. All told, it's 5.4mm - 38% thinner than the previous model.

"It's by far the best Nano we've ever created," Joswiak added, confirming that the iPod nano will launch next month (October) and cost $149 for the 16-gigabyte model.

So much for wireless streaming, widgets, texts forwarded from your phone, etc, etc, etc.

Bluetooth is nice, but I sure wish they'd try for a tad more innovation with this device. Making it bigger isn't really what I'd call an improvement.

So Apple had a nice looking iPod nano, then made it all tiny with a little square screen, and now made it have a bigger screen again. I'm perplexed at what Apple is doing. Nice change though, I always thought the 6th gen was stupid.

If you ever stepped outside the small apple box you would know that nokia came out with the N9 awhile ago. The nokia 920 that just release is an update of the 900 that was release earlier this year. Nokia did come out with the design before apple.

I think they hit a home run with this. I'm still using my old iPod mini for workouts but I might just have to get one of these. I would like to see an 8gb model offered, though it looks like Apple is moving away from anything less than 16gb for everything but the Shuffle.

All this "Nokia copy" talk is ludicrous. Is it rectangular? Yes. Does it have a glass front? Yes. Does it come in a few "fun" colors? Yes. Other than that, the Nokia is kinda thick, and the bezel around the glass is totally different.

I get sick of the lawsuits ... You know who ends up paying for those legal fees? We do. Apple charges enough as it is. I don't want to see more and more lawsuits because prices will just go up to pay for the mounting legal fees.

Such great new innovations in the new iPod Nano! Very exciting to have that new dock connector. All my friends are going to be jealous of that. And it can now play video - wow! I hope the next version has a camera to record video too. That would be an awesome upgrade!!

Bigger screen is really helpful in many cases like internet searching and social sites.
